To let Christmas dinner turn me throttly?

Every year! I always try my best to be organised so I get to spend as much time with the family as possible while cooking the dinner, tiny kitchen leading into open plan dining room so i am mostly in there company while pottering about, but it really drives me crazy when that I can't even nip to the loo without people feeling the need to "help" I m usually really laid back but much wine had to be consumed to smother the growls at people opening the oven door every 5 minutes to "check" the turkey, adding additional herbs to my veg and roasties, swapping food from one pot to the other and generally getting in my bloody way!
Too many cooks? Or am I just a miserable old grinch who needs to loosen up?

no, they should keep out of the way unless you ask them directly for help. how about planning some activities to keep them out of your hair? they could lay the table (risky) or pour drinks for each other in the living room (less likely to involve coming into the kitchen... and another ruse would be to get a loo put at the back of the kitchen somewhere so they don't know when you've 'left the room'...

Yes I think from now on i'll have to keep them busy in another room, though that is a bit of a shame for me being stuck in there on my own, I do love them and they are very well meaning but like to feel useful, must practise nice but firm way of shooing them out.
also adds insult to injury when they then try to take credit for dishes they have 'improvised' oh yes you peeled, par boiled and tossed the roasties in goose fat with herbs, but that extra rosemary flavour really MAKES the dish Hmm

I don't think I would let it bother me. WHo cares who takes credit if it is nice to eat? I don't feel that possessive about dinner, I'm afraid. If they want to help, let them. And rosemary is lovely with potatoes...

Point taken cardi, but there was already rosemary on the potatoes, it's a delicate balance of flavours innit :)
