to ask FIL to wash his hands when he has taken a piss?

FIL is a digusting caveman. I don't know how lovely MIL puts up with him. They are here for buffet lunch & tea today. He has prostate problems so is going for a wee every half hour or so. Since they arrived at 11am, he hasn't washed his hands once. But he has spent hours lovingly fingering the buffet food. He just emerged from the downstairs loo again, and I said to DD "you didn't put the Hello Kitty handwash in that loo, did you? Grandad doesn't want to smell of strawberries". He just ignored us. Food is probably showered in piss by now anyway. Xmas Sad

Dh does this...

Binfullofgibletsonthe26th · 26/12/2012 17:52

Hopefully not in an urinal. I've never followed him in to find out yet

LittleBairn · 26/12/2012 17:53

There is no way in hell I would eat any of that food. In fact he would probably be banned forever. [easily quesy emotcon]

LittleBairn · 26/12/2012 17:54

Louis my mumsnet education has informed me that many men sit down to piss...not that I've ever know one that did but according to MN they exist.

MaltesersR4LifenotJust4Xmas · 26/12/2012 18:21

It is disgusting, and does spread germs, but it is also as rude to point out a guests lack of hygiene while you are hosting them, I would discreetly dump any food he has touched, or make him a plate, then maybe see if dh would be willing to have a chat with him at a later date

InLoveWithDavidTennant · 26/12/2012 18:23

my pil are both very unhigenic. dont wash hands, fil picks his nose and teeth, mil leaves red lipstick EVERYWHERE (this includes my nice white chair!), neither can wash up for shit and it will need to be done again

once, i had been cleaning upstairs with bleach and cloth (left on bucket) the day before mil arrived. she washed up that first morning, using that very cloth!, as apparently she couldnt find the sponge that was right in front of her that is kept WITH the washing up liquid "doesnt do sponges in her house" WTAF???? Shock

they both also touch other peoples food i dont even like clean people touching my food

LouisWalshsChristmasCloset · 26/12/2012 18:28

Really? Confused
I feel like starting a thread to ask people if their oh's sit down to piss.

pigletmania · 26/12/2012 18:53

It is ewww, I would just dump any fod he has touched and make up a plate for him. It's up to men whether they pee standing up or sitting down

Arithmeticulous · 26/12/2012 18:57

My mother does this. She also pees on the seat and leaves it. She also insists on eating with her hands if at all possible, and touching as much food as possible - like serving my food with her hands instead of letting me help myself. I've seen her let the dog lick her hands then use them to rip me a hunk of bread instead of using the breadknife. Makes my teeth itch. She also gets a lot of stomach bugs go figure

Mrsrudolphduvall · 26/12/2012 19:03

FIL's downstairs toilet is perpetually shit splattered.
I would rather get a uti than use it.

musicmaiden · 26/12/2012 19:45

Really, LOADS of men don't wash their hands after a wee. Just loads. Haven't you lot ever asked your DHs what the reality is in public toilets?

Not that the OP is BU...

cuttingpicassostoenails · 26/12/2012 20:02

For a man, sitting down to piss is a bad idea. The pipes don't drain properly and there is a greatly added risk of urinary tract infections.

LittleBairn · 26/12/2012 20:06

louis there has been many threads on it over the years with half the posters Shock and the other halfs all smug claiming they insist their DH and DS sit down to save splash incidents.

LouisWalshsChristmasCloset · 26/12/2012 20:12

Eww really. Is it just me or is the thought of a man sitting down to wee just weird and off putting Confused

LouisWalshsChristmasCloset · 26/12/2012 20:13

Disclaimer- I don't enjoy the sight of men standing up to piss.

PiccadillyCervix · 26/12/2012 20:56

Louis my mumsnet education has informed me that many men sit down topiss...not that I've ever know one that did but according to MN they exist.

I think it is pretty common in germany... maybe it has moved to the UK now... thank fuck. Dh has awful aim.

OPYANBU

Binfullofgibletsonthe26th · 26/12/2012 21:14

Maybe that's why - my dh lived in Germany for 11 years.

He always sits if I am in the bathroom cleaning my teeth or showering. I find it considerate not to have an arc of steaming hot piss trundling next to me.

breatheslowly · 26/12/2012 21:22

YANBU, but apparently loads of men don't wash their hands after using the loo according to my DH. I can't imagine going to the loo at work and then walking out past my colleagues without washing my hands, I would want the ground to swallow me up. But apparently men do this.

margarethamilton · 26/12/2012 21:24

Step FIL leaves the door to the downstairs loo wide open too so you can hear him pissing like a horse from the dining room. [vomiting emoticon] Carrying on a normal conversation when you can hear that is very difficult!

CasperGutman · 26/12/2012 22:13

Speaking as a man.... Although I personally wash my hands each time, I can sometimes see the attraction of not doing so in public loos. You can walk in, use a urinal, and walk out, never touching anything but your own, perhaps very recently washed bits. Whereas the taps, sinks, dryers may be disgusting.

cutegorilla · 26/12/2012 22:21

Why would you do a buffet when you knew he was coming?!

acsec · 26/12/2012 22:25

ICK! When DSS came to live with us he needed training on washing his hands after going for a wee (and about shutting the lid of the toilet before flushing yuk ) but he was 7 and learnt quickly. How disgusting that your FIL doesn't wash his hands.

acsec · 26/12/2012 22:28

video shows it even better Y

acsec · 26/12/2012 22:28

Doh

cutegorilla · 26/12/2012 22:42

Sorry, should probably have said, but think it goes without saying he is grim. Don't think I could bring myself to eat the buffet though.
