Please settle an argument-used nappies, do they go in the bin or in a pile in the corner of the bathroom?

Also, if you spill calamine lotion on the floor while dealing with a pox afflicted child, do you wipe it up, maybe even taking the child to bed first, or do you leave it for three days till it dries solid?

In addition, if a present is packed in polystyrene which the toddler shreds, do you leave it to magically degrade, tramping throughout the house, or do you find two minutes to hoover it up while your wife cooks the Christmas dinner?

Dirty clothes-in a heap on the bathroom floor with up to a three day backlog or in the basket, bearing in mind that there are three baskets and the toddler knows how to use them?

I'm not that house proud, really I'm not but I'm given to understand that it is unreasonable to object to any of this and should "relax". Which is OK till I want to use the bathroom with the whole dirty clothes and nappies thing going on!

I think dirty nappies should go in the outdoor bin asap, ie after the baby has been dealt with. Wet nappies in a nappy bag could at a push stay in the bathroom bin.

Ffs your husband sounds lazy! Does he think he can lie down all day and be treated like a king? Tell him to shift himself!

DrSeuss · 26/12/2012 12:29

To be fair, he does loads with the two kids but thinks the house really doesn't matter. I have trained him to put used food packs in the bin by placing them on his computer keyboard every time I find them on a work top, back in a cupboard or even on the sofa (yes, really). Am now thinking of doing same with nappies! I really cannot force myself to live at the standard he does.

YANBU. Its your house too. Plus the nappy thing sounds gross and is unhygenic.
He needs a swift kick up the bum! Sit him down and tell him what standard you expect, yes compromise on some things but he has to improve! Was/is his parents home like that, perhaps its normal to him?

Saccrofolium · 26/12/2012 14:06

YANBU, but I have to inform you that your husband is a bigamist.

Inertia · 26/12/2012 14:26

You could try rolling up the nappies, calamine, polystyrene and clothes up together and dumping the whole lot on his computer...

It's dirty and disrespectful to just leave it - it implies he thinks you are some kind of maidservant for him.

Saccrofolium Xmas Shock !!!

How do you know that! Do you have powers?

DrSeuss · 26/12/2012 14:30

He has just washed the kitchen floor for me and now thinks he's done his bit. I was washing it as it was last done a week today and he walked in so he completed it. In his opinion, he's now golden for at leat a week!

His mother's house was not spotless but wasn't filthy either, much like mine, really. He claims that he just can't see dirt! If I mention it to his mother, I get the whole extended mega mix of how he tries. I have just given up on some things and let them go, eg I bought Christmas cards and took and printed a Christmas picture of the kids to send. I sent cards to all my family and friends. He sent nothing to anyone, not even his own parents. I decided to let it go and, if asked, just say that it was his problem.

All attempts at explaining the standard I want are dismissed as nagging. If he's a bigamist, I wish his other wife would hurry up and collect him!

Or at least, leave the bastard a dirty nappy surprise on his keyboard.
