Great day. Although, just realised that there is still honey-glazed parsnips in the oven. Can we just re-heat them?

P.S. It was a great idea to get OH a new PS3 game. Means I get more MN time!!

Wolfiefan · 25/12/2012 22:58

Lovely to hear happy stories. We have had a lovely relaxed day. Just family and chilling out. Kids happy. I had a real moment bringing pudding in tonight. Just looking at my 2 lovely dcs and DH. Happy and healthy and just felt so chuffing lucky and full of love. (No I had not been at the sherry!)
Oh don't worry we had nappies and a bit of seasonal whinging as well. We are not some perfect made for tv family!

TheOneWithTheHair · 25/12/2012 23:39

We're not a tv family either but I so enjoy their company!

wolfiefan - that is lovely!

I had a couple of moments like that too. One was when I was setting up the dining table - it's a crappy old fold-out thing, where the chairs fit folded up in the middle - and me and ex were balancing books under the legs ("try the clinical endocrinology textbook under that leg - that usually works!")

I mused "Next year, I shall have a proper dining table with snowy linen, napkin rings, proper napkins, matching glasses etc "- we both fell about laughing. As I shook out the wipe-clean reindeer tablecloth I got from some poundland shop years ago, and laid it across the table, sighing to myself, ds2 came running in...

"MUUM have we got any more batteries.. - oh WOW it's the reindeer tablecloth (looks at it reverently) - we have to do the reindeer table cloth dance!!"

  • and as one, we all boogied around the table, hands as antlers singing the reindeer song - apart from ds1, (15) who was simultaneously laughing, and moaning softly to himself and denying all genetic heritage... So thats the snowy tablecloth idea knocked on the head then... Grin

Second moment - we were watching 'call the midwife' and squabbling over the quality street. I was lying on one sofa, ex-dh on the other, ds1 on the floor, and ds2 came and laid himself beside me. He rubs his face on me and announces he has had a really really great day. Ds1 stops fighting for the last toffee penny, and announces that he has too!

It was brill! I just welled up.

SageStuffingYourOrifice · 26/12/2012 00:53

Aw Pixwix- you've just made me well up, too!

Lovely day here too. DD so cute (still has presents to open tomorrow- friends & family have been ridiculously generous), my DH cooked an amazing dinner for us all, my mum's Christmas pud was stunning and we managed to keep it alight & my BIL brought a magnum of v posh champagne that he won recently in a raffle so we all got a bit squiffy.

But, presents and food aside, the best bit for me is our DD- the feisty, funny, cuddly, happy little girl that we never thought we'd have. DH may not have a job at the moment but nothing can spoil the feeling that we have our miracle girl.

Wishing you all a peaceful night.

Lovely to read these.

My sometimes irritating as blazes teen DS (just 13yo) brought through his Galaxy selection box for me to have first dibs (I've not eaten chocolate for 40 days- sort of a pre-Christmas Lent)

"What would you like"? he asks, offering the box but curling his claw-like little hand round the Galxy Caramel (his favourite)
Then as I'm thinking "Aww I'm glad I didn't eat him at birth"
he follows with
"You'd best have the Bubbly bar, you're on a diet"

Grin Hmm Thanks DS

WeWilsonAMerryChristmas · 26/12/2012 01:04

Pixwix I need to know what the reindeer song is...

Apart from a tense moment first thing where I thought DS had opened all his presents solo (he got up for a wee, then went back to bed! What child does that? He only half woke me, so then I drifted back to sleep, waking half an hour later to fear the worst) we had a perfect day. The first Christmas 'just us' since DS7 was born, it won't be the last.

VestaCurry · 26/12/2012 01:13

I've just been really pleased that my dc's have said they had a brill day, they loved their presents (didn't spend tons on them), and they had a lovely Christmas meal.
This is despite me only managing to go downstairs for an hour during present opening this morning. I finally succumbed to the winter vomiting bug Sad. Dh had been great, though, cooked the meal (I had to keep bedroom door shut and throw windows open, food smells making me retch).
They just did 'boys and their new toys' all day. I was just relieved that me feeling so unwell didn't spoil it for them.

pixwix · 26/12/2012 01:15

Ach wewilson - it's nowt special - you dramatically tuck your hair behind your ears, straighten your arms purposefully, form antlers on head and go

"Rudolph, the red nosed reindeer -OI! had a very shiny nose -OI! etc" as you conga round the table, but on the OI! you have to kick up a leg behind you - and it has to be alternate legs... Xmas Blush

It started years ago, in my defence.... Grin

Did I read right? ds7? wow! Grin

WeWilsonAMerryChristmas · 26/12/2012 01:19

DS aged 7, not my 7th DS Xmas Grin

Loving the reindeer song Thanks aving that

blackcurrants · 26/12/2012 01:29

YADNBU- we've had a lovely day, DS(2.5) doesn't really know about Christmas yet but DOES understand opening presents and new toys Grin He had a strop or two but has been snuggly and generally gorgeous. DH made a huge and lovely lunch, played with DS, gave me presents and let.me put me feet up Smile

I'm 5 days overdue with DS 2 and today has been one of the nicest days I've had in the last month.

TheOneWithTheHair · 26/12/2012 08:03

I'm glad you all has a lovely day.

Ds1 (16 and normally grumpy) topped it off for me by putting a status on fb about what a great day he's had. High praise indeed! Xmas Grin

Yanbu. dd and I had a great day too. It was our first Xmas alone together in our first home and it was everything I wished it'd been. Followed by a lovely family get together. Eventho my mum wasn't very well she was a great host. Grin
