Well actually I am, and am about to spit my dummy out!

Am never really made to feel welcome at in laws and today is no different, always feel like I'm a tag along to the main event.

Mil phoned about a month ago to ask what we wanted for Christmas, and told us how much she wanted to spend, so dh told her what I would like. No surprise today is that she has totally ignored this. What I am upset about is the total lack of thought that has gone into my present, I know that others would probably love it, but she has literally walked into debenhams and picked up the first tube of smelly she can find (bought me the same 5 years ago and knows I can't use it because of skin condition)

For reasons I won't go into dh has bought me nothing which means that my present pile consists of two tubes of cream that my dd bought me at the school fayre (bless her to bits! I almost cried she is such a sweetie)

I am the first to criticise ungrateful behaviour but I just feel a bit unloved at the moment, dh just told me to stop being a brat and he is right. It would have just been lovely if someone had given me a bit of thought as we have had a pretty horrible year :-(

Tell me to get over myself!

I had a Nivea shower cream set. I love it.

It's really not the gift. I know it's such a cliche, but no one has given me anymore than a passing thought.

I know what you mean DrMelons, a gift that's been bought thoughtfully is priceless. Wine Also why ask someone what they want if you're going to ignore it?!

Bless your DD though, how old is she?

HairyGrotter · 25/12/2012 16:49

I got no presents, woe is me...I'm a lone parent though Grin. Some people are just a bit crap, aren't they?

drmelons · 25/12/2012 18:31

My beautiful daughter is 8, and like most 8 year olds has a tendency to feel like she is the centre of the universe (no idea where she gets that from ;-) ) she took such delight in giving me my present it was lovely.

I think us mums spend so much of time seeing to the needs of others all year (and especially at this time of year) that maybe it just feels a little rough when we are over looked.

Maybe we can start an alternative gift giving thread.,..

Hairy grottier my gift to you is my upmost admiration. I'm sure you have given your DC a lovely Christmas, well done you!

And to cortana my gift is deepest gratitude, you have been the first person who has shown me any understanding all day, thank you so much x

Sole- I will forward you my smelliest ;-)

Ha- or even smellies! My smelliest would be an entirely different thing after all those sprouts!

Why didn't your dh get you anything? Sad

drmelons · 25/12/2012 18:51

Long back story, if I'm honest I sort of set him up to fail. Was just hoping that he wouldn't!

Am having thoughts that next year Christmas will be very different.

Any one else got any gifts for anybody?

My DP didn't get me anything because I asked him not to. This is because I want a spectacular present that the joint money pot cannot afford right now. I will have to wait a couple of months.

My DC bought me a shower gel from the school fayre closed (to adults) room. They were so excited to give it to me.

My DD1 bought me a charm for my charm bracelet, which I had to lend her the money for, but she will pay me back.

My DM gave me money which is going towards my special pressie.

My ILs will all lavish my DP and DC with gifts when they go and visit on Thursday, but I will most likely get nothing.

I feel your pain but at least I know I have something to come.

drmelons · 25/12/2012 19:09

Ooh is it a good one mama?

What is wrong with people who buy 3 of 4 members of a family something lavish and thoughtful, but just a thoughtless token or even nothing for the other? What do they really think the effect of that will be? Could you ever imagine doing the same yourself? In fact I think I may even lean slightly in the other direction. I'm sure that I probably put slightly more thought into sil pressie than db.

Yes a good one. I am hoping to get a second hand i-phone. Hopefully there will be loads of people who have upgraded at Christmas and we will be able to get one really cheaply. I can't because of poor credit rating don't want a contract because this time next year I shall be a poor student nurse.

I have an update on presents though. Came in to work for my night shift and 'Santa' had left me a present-a fob watch.

Stormfromeast · 26/12/2012 09:35

Christmas, christmas prezzies, and anything associated with Christmas just caused so much angst. My DH asked about prezzies for his family. I said I would get it. On Christmas Eve, he went to spend about £200 on wine for his family, even though he asked me to get the prezzies. I was livid. He so totally underminded me as if I am not capable to buying prezzies. In range, I threw away all the prezzies in the bin. We have not spoken since Christmas Eve.
