To think this is totally ott

A couple of fb friends have posted pics of Santa having been, and the gifts have taken over the living room.

One has two children, one has one.

The one with two (both pre-school) has at least 60 Santa presents wrapped, probably nearer 100 (I got boreat when I got to 20) the one with one (just started school this year) has a bit less but not half. These are middling to big gifts.

Now this is not about money. It could all be things from the pound shop, and even if its not, it's their money to spend how they wish.

But AIBU to think that these young children will probably be a bit overwhelmed with it all?

Whenever I left out Santa gifts I always felt it maybe didn't look enough, but the kids were always delighted and it usually took an hour or two to get them all opened by the time they'd opened it, the packaging, had a shot and showed their sibling.

Surely that'll take all day!

I didn't get boreat, I got bored!

Yabu. None of your business.

Although they probably have put the pictures on fb to show everyone how much they have bought. Which is slightly twatish.

HollyBerryBush · 25/12/2012 06:26

My mates house is like that BUT they put everything under the tree before dishing out - so when you factor in something like 8 aunts and uncles and all the cousins, plus grandparents etc etc their living room is totally swamped.

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 25/12/2012 06:27

YANBU! My dd showed her birthday presents to a friend in October ( she turned 8) she got a digital camera and other bits and bobs, 5-6 presents. And her friend looked and said 'is that all?' I was Shock! Thankfully dd was very impressed with her haul!

JeezyOrangePips · 25/12/2012 06:28

I knew I would get told it was none of my business, but they have posted the photos on Facebook for me and everyone else on their friends list to see. Surely they are inviting comment? (although admittedly not on here).

OP posts:
JeezyOrangePips · 25/12/2012 06:31

That's a good point, it could be everyone's gifts - one of them commented that (dd and ds) will be so excited, so I assumed it was for them, but that is an assumption on my part and quite possibly wrong.

bradywasmyfavouritewiseman · 25/12/2012 06:32

There you go. Comment on fb.

The presents don't have to be opened first think am expecting my toddler to get bored although he has no where near that. He can open the others later.

TeeElfOnTeeShelf · 25/12/2012 06:32

How do you know a) they are all from Santa and not from relatives and friends and b) all for the kids?

So not only judgy, but assumptive.

Try to have a Merry Christmas even though you are, apparently, seething with jealousy.

wannabedomesticgoddess · 25/12/2012 06:38

DD1 is going to be overwhelmed. Not because of a huge pile from santa, but from the fact she has santa presents at ours (I cannot wait! Why isnt she up yet??) more at her Dads, loads from my mum, her dads mum and sister, and then loads from DPs parents tomorrow!

Though the fb pics are just ridiculous!

JeezyOrangePips · 25/12/2012 06:38

Hahahaha, I'm not jealous at all! I'm not someone that bases my self-esteem on gifts given and received. I'm more the type that gets confused as to why grown-ups get upset when birthday gifts aren't exactly what they want.

Both photos were posted as 'Santa has been' - so not a big assumption to make, really.

DPs cousin is like this. At christmas he gets so many presents that he actually gets bored opening them so doesn't do them all at once, and by easter he'll have probably unwrapped them all. At easter he gets that many eggs he's still eating them by christmas!

JeezyOrangePips · 25/12/2012 06:40

At least they are dotted around various places wannabe. I hope she and you have a lovely day.

Hulababy · 25/12/2012 06:46

Santa has been just means the presents are out ime. Generally means all presents from everyone and to everyone.

JenaiMathis · 25/12/2012 06:59

Yup, what Hula said. It's just a caption for a Facebook photo, anyway.

MrsMushroom · 25/12/2012 06:59

Yabu. It's not your idea of what's enough that matters to them.

RedHelenB · 25/12/2012 07:07

Good luck to them finding somewhere to put it all!!!

Arisbottle · 25/12/2012 07:33

I suspect that we have about 50 presents under our tree, maybe more we have five children who have one present between them and thing in addition. DH and I do not buy for each other. Just goes to show how quickly the presents build up once guests arrive.

Have you left a comment under their photo ?

greenplastictrees · 25/12/2012 08:32

When I was a child all presents would go under the tree. So for weeks before we'd receive gifts to various members of the family from aunts, uncles, etc.., and they would be added to the pile. Also the presents I bought for family would go under the tree as well. It could be a situation like that.

Itsnotahoover · 25/12/2012 09:13

I looked at the size of ds's present pile this morning in comparison to some of the pics I've seen on fb and had a fleeting thought that maybe I'd not got him enough, however he says "this is the best day of my life ever ever ever!" and loves everything he's got so I'm not concerned! At least I haven't got to find space to store a huge mountain of crap that will never get played with!!

curiousuze · 25/12/2012 09:29

Maybe they have family overseas who wanted to see the photos? My family in Australia posted photos like this - the presents before and after! I do think you are very weird to sit and count how many presents someone else's kid has got and then get angry about it. Why do you even care??

roughtyping · 25/12/2012 09:34

I am a bit like you - DS gets 3 presents from Santa and the rest from us, I thought this year he'd be a bit underwhelmed (his main present was expensive so didn't get him loads and loads and loads...). However he's v happy :)

When he was younger though the living room was a sea of presents! Lots of bulky toys. He's 9 and everything he wants is smaller.

Also - Santa is visiting my parents, OH's parents and my aunt's house...

lljkk · 25/12/2012 10:55

yanbu, but keep your mouth shut in real life.
For a lot of folk the deluge of stuff is what Christmas is all about.

JeezyOrangePips · 25/12/2012 11:06

Okay, I'm jealous, angry and wierd Xmas Grin

I'm really not angry or jealous. Wierd? Well I was at a loose end as I was the only person up, and when I saw the photo I was a bit gobsmacked, and started to count - but as I said I gave up after 20 as it wasn't that exciting, and then posted on here.

Do I need to be emotionally involved to post in AIBU? It was an observation.

I'm obviously not the only person to think it's OTT though, having just looked at the comments on the photo... and that includes comments from her family.

I hate all those fb pics of trees with presents under them. Looks like boasting to me (but it probably isn't!).

complexnumber · 25/12/2012 11:18

Methinks you maybe wearing your green pixie outfit on Christmas day.

...Never a good idea.
