...DH is currently grumping and sweating over a flat pack mini kitchen for DD2 from ikea. It's her main present and has been top of her Xmas list forever. She does have loads of other gifts under the tree from us and family but this was her main thing.

DH was planning to show her the box and then "have fun putting it together tomorrow"

I contend that you cannot show a picture of a 4 year old a flat pack assembly instruction book on Christmas morning and expect that to be an amazing experience for them no matter how much "fun" it is putting it together.

He is angry at me for asking him that we do this tonight as he wanted to go to bed. I said I would do it myself if he didn't want to but really think it has to be made for her to see when she wakes in the mornings. He is now insisting on doing it grumpily jand refuses help. So AIBU?

YANBU. DS is getting the Ikea kitchen too and DH has built it - at 4 she will only see the box and not comprehend the potential!

Idocrazy - she would have a long wait, her bday was only 3 weeks ago! Apols for the multiple typos btw. It's the tablet, not the wine, honest. hic

Make it up. Your dh is being lazy.

I am planning on getting it for DD for next Christmas. Maybe I should buy it next month if it's this hard to build.

GPND has got it right and kids like to be able to play with their toys straight away-not have to wait a couple hours. Trust me I'm an expert. Grin

It's not hard to build GoldPlated, a drunk man is trying to put it together late at night.

My DCs have that kitchen. DH put it together in about 10 mins. That was sober though Xmas Grin

It is great I'm sure your DD will love it.

Pantofino · 25/12/2012 00:57

No YANBU. Your dd wants to see a kitchen in the morning. not a flatpack box.

freddiefrog · 25/12/2012 01:13

We always build.

I've just spent the last hour skinning my knuckles and swearing a lot building a bike

blackcurrants · 25/12/2012 01:18

YADNBU- we just put together and wrapped the IKEA circus tent. . . DS is 2 and cannot wait, besides the WOW factor is what I want to see Grin

LoopsInHoops · 25/12/2012 01:22

Build it.

Softlysoftly · 25/12/2012 02:09

YANBU DD1s kitchen for her 2nd birthday we didn't assemble and that had lovely pics but a after wowing at the pics she wanted it then and there, got bored with "helping" and wandered off. DH ran out of time before work, I kicked and swore at it a bit, my dad finally finished it 3 days later Confused.

NervousReindeer · 25/12/2012 02:10

I think made up too Xmas Smile she'll love it
