Aibu to be upset for my mum- secret santa

At dms work they were doing a secret santa, dm spent ages deciding what to buy as she is lovely and wanted it to be appreciated. She finally decided on a Cath Kidston phone holder. She was still concerned about it and was asking me if I thought it was ok and I said I thought it was a really nice present.

She came home this evening upset as the girl who received the gift apparently spent the whole shift (not knowing dm had got it for her) going on about how horrible it was and 'who is Cath Kidston' and how her phone wouldn't even go in it.

I feel so sad for dm! Some people may just pick up whatever for a work secret santa but she really took her time thinking about it! Very angry that her colleague didn't stop to think that perhaps it was dm who bought it and bit her tongue during shift grr.

We have a £5 limit for secret Santa at work, it keeps my expectations fairly low Xmas Wink
. Just as well this year, as my secret santa didn't remember to bring it before I went off ..lol.

The woman should be embarrassed by her behaviour, not your mum.

Spuddybean · 25/12/2012 11:16

how rude, surely she knows the gift could be from anyone so should be extra gracious.

sounds like your dm should have got her this

Your mum's colleague is a rude, ungrateful cow. not to mention a bit thick The fact it's a Secret Santa didn't even enter her little brain then, as it was obvious that it was highly likely the buyer was around!
I'd seriously be hoping I got her again next year for the Secret Santa. Then wrapping the ungrateful little turnip up a piece of coal. Smile

How rude.

If I was your mum, I'd have waited until the end of the shift and then as I was saying bye, I'd say oh, sorry you didn't like your gift. I have the receipt if you want to exchange it. have a good christmas. See you later.

But I'm a cow. Grin

I appreciate not everyone would like jelly bellies or a cookbook - just saying both have more universal appeal, and very easy to regift.

One year I got a thong! Which was funny especially when everyone laughed when I opened it but the giver (who did not own up) had the good sense to include a gift receipt and it was from Next so I changed it!

I got a thong one year and entered into the spirit of things by wearing it over my trousers at work. was great fun!

Extremely rude and your mum did her best.
She might want to accidently on purpose let spill that it was her who gave it and that she feels bad that the lady didn't like it.....Wink childish? satisfying!

If your mum picks the woman again next year she can buy her a book of manners.
