Who can I donate a tv to?

muffinino82 · 24/12/2012 21:37

My parents have very kindly bought OH and I a new tv for Christmas so our old "23 tv is going free. Apart from freecycle, will any charities or shelters take them? We're in south east Wales and the tv is working fine.

Thanks Smile

Just report your post. It's very nice of you to think of others Xmas Smile

Just try a few charity shops. Some also collect. They take TVs if they have an electrician to test them. British Heart Foundation take them but so do some small local charities if they've got an electrician mate.

We have a recycled furniture place nearby, most areas have them now, ours take all sorts of electrical items, refurbish them and sell them very cheaply to anyone on low income.

Ask your local shelter if they know of anyone that wants it, when people are housed they start off with nothing, so a TV is lower down the list than a bed, cooker but really appreciated when they turn up, radio are also popular.

British Heart Foundation take electrical items in some of their shops now.

Groovee · 24/12/2012 22:03

Our local recycling centre have a "shed" where you leave things for others to take. Sort of freecycle without the emails.

muffinino82 · 24/12/2012 22:04

Thanks everyone, I'll make some enquiries in the places you've suggested. My dad reckons I should take it to the skip but it seems such a waste considering there's nothing wrong with it. There's a British Heart Foundation shop in our town so if nobody else can take it, hopefully they will be able to Smile

Is it a DVD combo one? If so I think a children's ward would be very grateful, and probably would be even if it's not a combo one, as they may get a separate DVD Player donated.

Merry Christmas!

foreverondiet · 24/12/2012 22:11

I ended up taking to the dump as it was an old one (ie needed freeview box) - although also working fine, seemed like such a waste, old computers though found a charity sending old PCs to Africa.

StinkyWicket · 24/12/2012 22:13

I ended up donating ours, as I was happy to give it away (not a flatscreen had an integrated video player!) but no one on freecycle wanted it!

muffinino82 · 24/12/2012 22:22

It isn't one with DVD/freeview combined but is perfectly workable. Seems a shame to take it to the dump, even if it could be used just to play DVDs. I'll see if anyone wants it and, if not, will throw it to the dump along with the rubbish free-flowing cat waterer that's broken Hmm

I gave one away via netmums local?

sashh · 25/12/2012 04:08

Your local probation service might take it. As part of trying to stop people reoffending they try to support people setting up a new home after coming out of prison.

munchkinmaster · 25/12/2012 04:20

No one ever wants non-flat screens on free cycle. You could see if there is a home start ups (packs of furniture for people moving into their own accom) near you but it's actually no good without a free view box. A charity shop might tell you if they think they can actually sell it.

Sorry I think give it a punt on free cycle then if not dump.

kittyandthegoldenfontanelles · 25/12/2012 04:21

I was thinking children's ward too, or woman's refuge or such. Somewhere residential and in need of home comforts.

Lovely of you to pay it forward. Thanks

Merry Christmas

kittyandthegoldenfontanelles · 25/12/2012 04:23

My local dry hostel does that home start up scheme thing. They'd take a none-flat screen.

TheCollieDog · 25/12/2012 12:28

I gave two analog tellies to the British Heart Foundation. They came & collected -- very nice people. There was a leaflet at work from them asking for unwanted electrical goods in usable good condition. Both mine were fine, I'd just spoiled us by buying a new digital flat screen television (which is bliss).
