I don't know what exactly is not quite right with my health, something related to candida and hypothyroid, stress and general fatigue .....anyway, I currently take a multi vitamin, vitamin B, milk thistle, caprylic acid, fish oil capsules and coconut oil....bit of a stab in the dark but I believe it does something because I feel worse when I stop taking them.

What do you take, what for, does it work and how did you decide on what to take?

Berocca - every single day. I never miss; haven't had a cold for years. I buy it for health benefits and not at all because I love the advert of the Canadians dancing on a log... Grin

imnotme · 22/12/2012 13:41

I just take Omega 3 after reading about long term health benefits associated with it.
Toying with getting an iron supplement as feel so crap around time of the month.

Haven't heard of some of your supplements, what are they all for?

soontobeburns · 22/12/2012 13:42

I take pre pregnancy care vitamins. Does it work? I don't think so but it's been near 3 years so I can't say. I'm sure, I'm built of folic acid now though lol.

MaltesersR4LifenotJust4Xmas · 22/12/2012 14:15

Berocca here too, I've been taking it so long I'm convinced I now need it just to feel normal!

MaltesersR4LifenotJust4Xmas · 22/12/2012 14:16

Actually milk thistle around once a year too when I'm doing a cleanse, Or before a night out

beamme · 22/12/2012 14:22

Multi vitamin with extra iron, because I'm borderline anemic and need the boost. I'm more tired/lethargic when I don't take it. Been looking at taking a natural supplement for anxiety but not sure what.

dondon33 · 22/12/2012 14:43

I take a daily multivitamin, magnesium with B6 (for healthy cells, bones, immune system to name a few) Omega 3 (for all related health benefits) Folic acid and Vit B12 (for health benefits to myself but also because I'm TTC)
I drink a large glass of fresh juice daily including apple, carrot, celery, ginger...whatever I want in there really but ALWAYS include fresh raw beetroot (various health benefits are too many to list here)
I also try to daily intake a standard 30mg of natural wheat bran to help my digestive system (and other benefits)

I honestly feel I do 'get' benefits from what I take but some of what I take is to support medical issues I've suffered with/continue to suffer so the benefits are clearer for me to see iykwim.

dondon33 · 22/12/2012 14:47

beamme - take a look at Valerian root but be sure it doesn't interact with any prescribed or over the counter medication you're already taking. And be sure to buy a good quality version (I used to buy from Holland & Barrett)
I don't take it now (as I said above I'm TTC) but I did find it really beneficial for anxiety and sleep problems.

Charliefox · 22/12/2012 15:27

Spatone.

missrlr · 22/12/2012 15:30

Vitamin D

BlueGoddess · 22/12/2012 15:30

Iron tablets, multi vitamins, and vitamin c taken every night before bed. Without them I'm very tired and catch every bug going

MrsTerrysChocolateOrange · 22/12/2012 15:32

As Sheldon would say, What you're buying here are the ingredients for very expensive urine.

Flaxseed oil or cod liver oil, Agnus Castus and starflower oil and at least 500mg vit C and low dose vit E every day.

The AC and starflower oil have really helped clear up the hormonal acne which hit me with avengance when i turned 40, and the vit C & E help lessen flare ups of endometriosis. I've had spells of not taking these and find that problems (spottiness, pain) flare up again.

WelshMaenad · 22/12/2012 17:28

Berocca - I take the regular one daily and use the Boost when I'm on a night shift.

therugratref · 22/12/2012 17:36

High dose Vit D plus calcium, magnesium and vit K- Cant tell you what a difference this has made to my life.
Vit B complex, Omega 3 and 6, chromium and selenium.
Agnus Caster and starflower.

Sugarbeach · 22/12/2012 17:39

Angus Caster and starflower - what are these for?

Ephiny · 22/12/2012 17:43

I don't take anything, gave up vitamin supplements because there didn't seem to be much evidence for them.

Have wondered if I should try Omega 3 if I can find a non-fishy one, as that's probably not something I'm getting much of from a vegetarian diet.

Meglet · 22/12/2012 17:44

Sports multi-vit + minerals with ginseng and a few other things I can't remember off the top of my head.
High dose evening primrose.
Milk thistle 'course' a few times a year. I don't really drink but I'm sure it improves my skin.

The sports multi-vit has perked me up this winter (it's the first time I've tried that particular brand). I've always taken vits since I was a kid, I'm sure it's done some good over the years.

Sugarbeach · 22/12/2012 17:44

Sorry...didn't read polly 's post properly.....sounds like what I might need ....going googling.....

Meglet · 22/12/2012 17:45

Oh, and an Omega 3,6,9 oil that I add to mine and the dc's food.

Sugarbeach · 22/12/2012 17:46

Yes, not much scientific evidence for the benefits of them, but they seem to make a difference to me, so I take them.....

St John's Wort, double the dose on the packet, for anxiety. It works for me and quite a bit better than the prescription anti-depressants I was on before it. It also has the excellent side benefit that unlike the a-ds, doesn't make me eat like a horse and put on 3 stone!

therugratref · 22/12/2012 18:23

Agnus caster and star flower I take for PMT they stop infantacide and husbandacide every month.
I used to be skeptical about vits, however the difference Vit D has made is really marked. Had levels done and was found to be very deficient.

gordyslovesheep · 22/12/2012 18:26

Sea kelp has been recommended to my for an under active thyroid but it must not be taken with thyroxin - check first before taking anything
