AIBU That Mumsnet won't allow any discussion on the Sally Roberts case?

There's something about her that is media hungry - if she hasn't sold her story to a tabloid or glossy mag in the next week then I'll take it back. But more importantly, WHY is Mumsnet towers deleting any threads discussing the case?

LittleTownofBethleHelenMumsnet · 21/12/2012 17:29

Afternoon. Just to clarify, we have never at any point made it policy to delete any thread discussing the Sally Roberts case.

In fact, I'm not aware of us having deleted any thread about the Sally Roberts case (but I may not be completely up to date).

So we're a little puzzled by this OP.

LittleTownofBethleHelenMumsnet · 21/12/2012 17:35

@LunaticFringe

Helen a thread was removed yesterday as it asked is she barking?

Yes, I stand corrected - have just read our logs.

This is what RowanMumsnet posted before deletion: "Hello. Sorry to be a bit late getting to this one. We try, wherever possible, to allow MNers to
discuss newsworthy events - but we agree with many of you that the tone of some posts on this thread are too unkind to a woman in an awful situation. So the thread will be disappearing shortly."

So, the thread was deleted because it was beyond awful, not because it was about Sally Roberts per se.

Hope that clarifies...

@Enfyshedd

I can understand how any threads on this case would turn into a mudslinging exercise.

But this thread isn't going to do that is it?

Tis the season and all that....

AHEM

RowanTheRedNosedMumsnet · 22/12/2012 21:40

Evening all.

We're reluctant to delete another thread about this situation: it does seem likely that another one will pop up in its place, and the posters on here who have relived unimaginably painful experiences in order that the rest of us can come to some understanding of this case might end up feeling that they have to do it again.

Which would be a pretty bad outcome.

So we're minded to leave this for now; we understand that lots of people want to discuss this case. We do need you all to cut out the personal attacks though, please - and that includes attacks on a mother who, while she may well not be an MNer, is going through something utterly awful right now.

RowanTheRedNosedMumsnet · 22/12/2012 21:48

@Greensleeves

That is a good point about having to do it all over again, I suppose.

You could hack out some of the uglier bits though. Including some of mine I suppose

I think you'll find, Greeny... Wink

RowanTheRedNosedMumsnet · 22/12/2012 22:03

LadyBeagle, telling posters to fuck off is against the Talk Guidelines (it counts as a personal attack) and will always be deleted when it's reported to us (unless we can see it's not meant seriously).

RowanTheRedNosedMumsnet · 22/12/2012 22:24

We don't have a problem with fucking swearing. We never have and never will.

But we do think that telling someone to 'fuck off' is a personal attack, unless it's clearly a joke.
