I am beginning to think I am. We don't really do christmas, we have 2 DDs, DD1 is nearly 7 and DD2 is 4. They get presents from Santa a biggish present like scooters/ dolls house/ barbie stuff about £50-100 worth but only 1 present.

We dont have any decorations or a tree. or have "xmas" lunch or family round but now they are both at school they have been going on about christmas and singing carols everywhere.

please help me to feel/be more xmassy? Xmas Blush

Go out over the weekend and get a tree/decorations. Think of the DD's faces. Smile

ihavenonameonhere · 21/12/2012 16:27

why dont you do Christmas? Is there a specific reason?

scrummummy · 21/12/2012 16:32

I have bought decorations from the £shop today which I've put up in their playroom. Along with a mini tree and lights. We have bought mince pies and carrots for Santa and the reindeer. Not completely hopeless I hope. [Confused]

ah, just put a tree up in the living room!

make it proper tacky, though, or you'll never get into the spirit.

they're old enough to make decorations, so get them to make stars and paper chains and angels and baubles.
and hang them all om the tree with flashinglights.

Xmas Grin

the making of the decorations etc will make you feel more christmassy - that's something that you can all do together Xmas Smile

Sparklingbrook · 21/12/2012 16:38

Ooh yes paper chains. My two loved making those when they were younger.

nickelbabylyinginamanger · 21/12/2012 16:39

here we go - christmas pudding

paper plate, brown paint, cotton wool, glitter, holly leaves and red buttons (or cherries)

stick it all together with glue. :)

nickelbabylyinginamanger · 21/12/2012 16:39

old toilet roll tubes are great for making people (and they sit on the tree branches)

angels, santa claus, elves, reindeer, shepherds, mary & joseph.

Well we've made some decorations. But we are Jewish and have spent the last couple of weeks with Hanuka. They got loads of presents, tablets each, barbies, puzzles, books, soft toys and crafty stuff and games.
But without going into a stately homes thread when I was growing up we celebrated Xmas after lunch no presents till about 5pm as my mum worked. My dh family nothing was done or maybe more drink he used to spend his time under the table in the pubs.

I'm an atheist but bought up in western christian culture. I love a bit of christmas. I don't know your background, but there are lots of good reasons to celebrate -
It's a horrible time of year to live way up high in the northern hemisphere

It's lovely to have a shared time of year when most people are not at work

I enjoy my extended family knees up (I know not true for everyone)

I love the my children enjoying the traditions I loved when I was a kid- like father Christmas

There is much fun to be had having a more secular Christmas, just enjoy what suits your family.

xxx

Slightly crossed post x

ahhhh, you drip-fed!! Xmas Shock

of course you're allowed not to celebrate Christmas if you've just done Hanuka! Grin

scrummummy · 21/12/2012 17:25

Sorry didn't mean to drip feed but as we do live in a Christian country there is Xmas everywhere and kids pick up on it. Thought I've got the hell of Westfield to look forward to on Sunday for their Santa gift.
