Bloody CALPROFEN

There seems to be universal understanding amongst average (not mumsnetters I'm sure) that it contains both ibuprofen and paracetamol (aka "calpol"). It Does not, It is just ibuprofen medicine.

Ami being unseasonable in thinking it's catchy and memorable but really not a very safe or wise name?

I can't say that Calprofen has ever confused me.

But the worst named children's medicine I have come across is Galpamol - Paracetamol made by local drugs company Galpharm. It's just a silly word, and I can never say it without thinking of that punk (?) song that goes "Dum, dum, dum, dum ALCOHOL!" .

DH once got the Calprofen and Calpol bottles mixed up (he didn't realize there were 2 types). He thought he was giving DS2 5 ml of Calpol when in fact he gave him 5ml of Calprofen which is twice the recommended dose. He only realized when he put the bottle away.

One quick call to NHS direct, and i was told the only side effect would be an extremely explosive poo the following day. I was so furious with DH. Couldn't believe he didn't check the bottle.

I have to agree with the OP. I work in childrens A&E and have seen it numerous times where parents come in and say they have given the one that has both calpol and nurofen in...calprofen. Yes to a lot of us this it is obvious but I also see a lot if parents who don't know it is actually paracetamol and those that think it is just for a fever and not for pain relief Xmas Confused
