staying overnight in hotel

The story-
Have planned to travel 200 miles to stay with my mum at Christmas. I like to plan in advance and get things sorted. Last week, OH says that his brother and family have arrived in UK from abroad and we are going to see them on our way down to my mum's as it is sort of on the way. I had specifically said to him not to agree to book anywhere so we had to stay overnight-we will have lots of luggage (my laptop as am doing work, ipad (present) and other presents. I don't want to have to unload the car fully, neither do I want to leave them in the car in a public carpark....BUT he has gone and booked a hotel room (without parking-so car will be left on street). I am really stressed, as find traveling stressful anyway without last minute changes. Not to mention the fact that his brother and family are so disorganised (eg coming to britain intending to visit parents in law in remote countryside without driving license so problems hiring car, not having booked accomodation for family of 4 over xmas period etc). I am feeling stressed so probably abu. HELP. Should I just shut up and be grateful. Wrapping presents and packing is really stressing me right now.

we share the car, but otherwise good point. As I'm sure is common, in-laws always cause some tension!

You might be over-thinking this a bit. Make sure the laptop is taken out of the car. Ensure presents are in the boot with the parcel shelf on so they are not on show, or else pack them into the huge ikea type bags and just get your DH to get them out the car overnight. 200 miles is not terribly far in a car, only about 4 hrs (we do 250 miles regularly and have it down to a fine art). Remember the reason for this is to see family which presumably doesn't happen often? Try to enjoy it and not worry too much about logistics - you're not flying at least!

it is actually 300 miles, not that it makes much difference-it's the packing rather than the distance that stresses me. I can see i am being a bit mad.
