to think if you are going to 'hide' someone on FB

... then you might as well be honest and delete them! I have no qualms about deleting people who annoy me on Facebook (unless they are family members).

What is the point in hiding people?

I have relatives who post all the 'repost if you love your kids' 'repost if you hate cancer', 'repost if you're wearing clean knickers' bullshit.

And annoying as it is and however much I don't want to see that bullshit they adore my little boy and love seeing pictures of him and seeing how he is doing. I don't want to read all their shit but they really want to see mine. Ignore is much better than deleting so they can't see their nephew.

If I had known I could hide people I may have stayed! Now I am curious about hiding I may have to go back.

I know very few of my Facebook friends in real life. I use it to get my art work out there to artists and art lovers. The hide function comes in handy alot for those that post personal stuff that I'm not interested in.

A example off the top of my head... I'm very good friends with a brother and sister. I see their mutual SIL at all their family events. She's a nice enough person if a bit daft. She friended me on FB, but her news feed is full of Catholic Daily updates (fine, I suppose) and calls for all her FB friends not to support gay marriage (absolutely not fine, IMO).

So, because I see her from time to time, and need to keep the social wheels oiled, etc, it's just simply a lot easier to hide her. My friends have her hidden too. No-one's offended, everyone carries on with their own little world and Facebook lives another day. Xmas Smile

There's also a couple of people who talk about nothing but their kids. Fine for those who know them; not so interesting for me. Hardly the crime of the century though - so I hide them rather than delete...

I dunno, it doesn't take too much imagination to figure out why the hide function was invented!

For me, it was because they requested being a friend (usually they are wife of someone I know), seemed rude to refuse, but then they endlessly tell me about their day etc.

By hiding them, they can see my weekly/fortnightly photos if they choose to, but I don't have to read about every coffee they have (with instamatic photo of coffee art!).
