to ask for name ideas that have meaning for our baby?

Please could I ask if you could put your thinking caps on and help us come up with ideas for our baby DDs name who is due very soon. I'm looking for a name that means something to us and I know you won't know what means something to us but if you could suggest where to look for inspiration that would be great. We'd ideally like a name that will not date.

We love Cornwall for instance so we could look at Cornish names or Cornish place names but what else? What gave you inspiration for the names for your DC?

Call it 'YABU'

It means 'You Are Being Unreasonable'

MrsKeithRichards · 19/12/2012 10:34

Worra you are being unreasonable using a nickname as a name, do not burden the poor child with it.

It's Yaanbue

WorraLorraTurkey · 19/12/2012 10:36

MrsK, how about double barrelling that?

mortgagefree we considered Olwen, Karenza, Morwenna and Seren if DS had been a girl (DH is Cornish).

There is a lovely baby names topic where people have loads of great ideas - try posting there for some more suggestions. Good luck!

I think Endellion or Breock are lovely Cornish girls names. You may have more luck in the baby names thread though. Congratulations btw Xmas Smile

You could look to Arthurian legend, isn't Camelot supposed to have been in Cornwall? Gwyn or Morgan are nice.

When we were trying to name DS2 my husband went through the England football team and then I went round the desks at work! We finally settled on what I'd have been called if I'd been a boy.

I like the name Genevieve.

here are some Cornish names with meanings. Most of them seem to mean "white, fair and smooth". Won't mean much if you're black.

PurpleTinsel · 19/12/2012 11:16

Agree with previous posters suggestion about trying the baby names topic.

We named DS after family members. That was meaningful to us.

And it can be difficult to know in advance what will or won't date, because names can go in and out of popularity very quickly. So I'd worry more about how much you and your DP like the names.

Not Cornish but variants of the name Natalie (Natalia, Natasha etc) mean "born at christmas" so appropriate for this time of year.

DS is named after DHs childhood dog Blush

He got me when the drugs were still working........

Jago

Elowen is a Cornish name - I think it means 'birch tree'.
