ok its a bit bah humbug, but christmas cards really bug me, they make the place look scruffy and i cant wait to take them down.

Get a card holder so they don't fill every surface.

FredFredGeorge · 18/12/2012 12:51

YABU just don't put them up then... And request people don't give them to you. It's not bah humbug, you just don't like cards.

AfterEightMintyy · 18/12/2012 12:52

Oh gosh how precious are you?

Songbird · 18/12/2012 12:54

they spoil my nice colour theme

Hyacinth Bucket, welcome to Mumsnet!

ChristmasJubilee · 18/12/2012 12:56

Get a grip - or a box to put them in.

Atthewelles · 18/12/2012 12:57

I can think of lots of reasons why Christmas cards are annoying:
Cost a fortune in stamps
Hassle trying to find people's addresses
People seeing them as popularity contests and wanting cards from next door neighbours and people they see in work everyday etc

But spoiling the colour theme?????????

whiteandyelloworchid · 18/12/2012 12:57

i would love to not send any or recieve any.
i hate writting them too.

Startail · 18/12/2012 12:59

Very, but that's because I need to write mine.

receiving them is nice, but I have a permanent string to peg cards too.

hallamoo · 18/12/2012 13:00

I like the sentiment, but I agree! They clutter the place up, and I have enough clutter to deal with in my house.

Ditto Christmas decorations, although I do allow a hideously decorated 7ft tree!

ReallyNotTotallyStupidPromise · 18/12/2012 13:01

Why on earth do you send them then?

Why not put a note in saying that you have decided you wont be sending them next year (not good for the environment or whatever) and would not be offended if people stopped sending them to you.

I like them, I love Christmas 'tat'. I don't have a lot of clutter, I don't do ornaments, or pictures on the walls or whatever - very minimalist look, so I quite enjoy the drastic change at Christmas - then even more so when I put it all away how lovely and calm it looks Xmas Grin

5Foot5 · 18/12/2012 13:04

Oh I bet you are one of those people who has a sophisticated theme for their tree - all purple and silver or only beads and bows or something. None of this chucking any bauble you have ever owned on it...

SantaWearsGreen · 18/12/2012 13:04

Ugh they are shit. We've received about 4 so far and none are up. I just dislike them a lot.

Frangipan1979 · 18/12/2012 13:05

I hate it when you send a card, then the recipient feels obliged to send you one back so they text and ask for your address!!

MonaLotte · 18/12/2012 13:05

Inth

Frangipan1979 · 18/12/2012 13:06

Even though you have given them your address every Christmas and birthday for the last ten years!

MonaLotte · 18/12/2012 13:07

I think you should let people you don't want any next year and you won't be offended. But not liking them because of the colour scheme thing is quite bah humbug!

KenLeeeeeeeInnaSantaHat · 18/12/2012 13:08

I love them. They're one of my favourite bits of Christmas tat decoration to hang up. I have a lovely big silver ribbon that I've tied into a bow and pinned on the wall, and I peg the cards to the tails hanging down the wall. Looks vair pretty.

The only thing I don't like about it is realising that my children receive many more cards than me, courtesy of their school friends. My card ribbons are festooned with Hello Kitty, Shrek, Toy Story and other assorted naff kids' Christmas cards. Xmas Grin

Ooops, forgot - YABU.

Whatevertheweather · 18/12/2012 13:12

YANBU I don't like cards for any occasion. Pointless pieces of paper that you never know what to do with after the event. Seems sad to chuck 'em when people have spent money and time on them, can't keep them as what's the point and have no time or inclination to cut them up to make labels or some such crafty type thing. Ugh.

DeGlitterBug · 18/12/2012 13:17

I dislike them -both sending and receiving. I don't complain about them and would never let the sender know, but I really can't stand the things. Not because of my colour scheme, but because:

  1. They are a waste of precious trees & money
  2. Postage is so expensive
  3. Our house is too untidy to stand them up and I'm too disorganised to rig up some sort of cardholding shit, so instead they sit around in piles until I finally get round to recycling them or making them into present tags for this next year
  4. The kids rip the envelopes open and strew bits of paper everywhere.
  5. Most have nothing personal at all in them, some don't even have our names written in, just happy christmas and who they're from. Honestly, why bother?
whiteandyelloworchid · 18/12/2012 23:54

Yeah most people just send them because they feel obliged.

OP posts:
judefawley · 19/12/2012 00:02

Ours are lying flat in a burgeoning pile on top of the microwave. I don't display them as I'm too precious about the décor.

We have stopped sending them; I am hoping it will catch on.

fiverabbits · 19/12/2012 00:30

In the last 40 years we have been mar.ried my DH has never written one Christmas card, not even one to me, BUT he asks about 20 times in December have I written them yet. He doesn't put any in other peoples houses or the post box. I HATE the sight of Christmas cards !

Pandemoniaa · 19/12/2012 00:36

i hate writting them too.

Try writing them.
