Morrisons customer services number is : 0845 611 6111

Customer services site for online complaints is HERE

Vegetarians don't eat FISH - 3 year olds can grasp this concept, so why are Morrisons struggling with it?

I am coming to this late, but I have only just heard the advert. (There's one thread about it already, but it's just a discussion.)

I would love as many people as possible to phone/email/contact Morrisons and complain (on behalf of us vegetarians, even if you aren't one!)

I rang their Customer Services dept. the woman was lovely, but she hadn't even heard the ad let alone had any complaints, she went to speak to her Manager and when she came back she said there had been 'One or two complaints about it' and that she realised why I was frustrated by it.

I was pleasant and polite, I didn't rant as I wanted to but I did explain that BIG companies like theirs advertising like this makes people think that vegetarians must eat fish and that fish is suitable for vegetarians, so it's OK to put fish/fish products in meals etc. I explained that if it happend to me, I would be very ill.

I said I was amazed that such a BIG company could get an advert so wrong and wondered how it got to air?

I also said that it means I now no longer trust Morrisons labeling for vegetarians and would no longer be shopping there as it's time consuming to read all of the ingredients when you can't trust 'suitable for vegetarians' labeling - much easier to shop at Sainsbury's, Tesco, Waitrose or ASDA - where you can trust their labeling :)

Fish is not suitable for vegetarians. Vegetarians DO NOT eat fish

There is no debate - people who eat fish are NOT vegetarian.

totally and bruffin beat me to it.

I own a steak house. When people book a table and have a vegetarian the chef will make something especially for them.

However about 90% of these 'vegetarians' turn up and end up ordering fish. In some cases the 'vegetarians' order chicken. People say they are vegetarian all the time. Whe. They are not.

I had to order a vegetarian meal for mil at my wedding, she started the day with a bacon sandwich.

Aargh! This drives me crazy! Will google the advert and complain.

They have amended the ad to non meat eaters, but from the look of the facebook page, they seem to not be acknowledging that they ever did make an error, same as with the Christmas pud/dog advert!

It's situations like mysterymeg's that make it a problem. I don't mind that much what other people eat - I'm married to a man who would happily live on BBQ ribs, if he could - but it causes embarrassment, confusion and extra work when I turn up to an event and refuse the 'Vegetarian' salmon.

Plus it makes people like my inlaws think I am very fussy because they thought veggies ate fish and 'chicken on special occasions' Hmm and they refer to me as a 'super super strict vegetarian' for not eating fish/lard etc .... I'm not, I'm just vegetarian!

perplexedpirate · 18/12/2012 08:14

I can't find the ad. Anyone got a link, please?

zcos · 22/01/2013 05:05

I Wish I had seen this before Christmas!
When people find out I am a vegetarian the next question is "do you eat fish" I sometimes get frustrated and answer "no I'm a vegetarian" instead of taking the time to explain in a nicer way!

CogitoErgoSometimes · 22/01/2013 07:29

YABU... why waste a phone-call? Simplest way to protest is not to shop at Morrisons, surely?

mamamibbo · 22/01/2013 07:37

because then morrisons dont know why and cant fix the problem?

jessjessjess · 22/01/2013 07:49

I don't think I can credibly complain without hearing it myself. And I can't find it.

CogitoErgoSometimes · 22/01/2013 07:58

Isn't that Morrison's look-out? I can't believe, out of the many thousands who work for Morrisons, its suppliers and agencies, a) there aren't vegetarians and b) there isn't one who hasn't alerted the marketing division that they'd made a bit of a boob. In the meantime, if vegetarians boycott the place, the takings will go down.

NewAndSparklyMe · 22/01/2013 08:01

You need to add a link to the advert before asking people to complain. It's pretty stupid to complain about something when you've heard about something second hand and not seen it for yourself (which I haven't) so no, I won't be doing it.
Put a link to the advert if you want more people to take you seriously.

CogitoErgoSometimes · 22/01/2013 08:06

It was an advert for a 3-fish roast and the voice-over said 'Christmas can be a bit dull for vegetarians'. So the advert hasn't been on the screens for a whole month now and I doubt it's going to be repeated. Big fuss over nothing, surely?

coraltoes · 22/01/2013 08:07

Ok I get it, you guys don't eat fish or meat but being rude and saying fish is disgusting is hardly going to make non vegetarians empathise with your issue with the ad. Turn the channel over....shop somewhere nicer. Job done.

ratspeaker · 22/01/2013 08:09

The ad in question was on tv middle of December, which was when this thread was started. It's no longer running.

RuleBritannia · 22/01/2013 10:05

Well, if the advertisement has been withdrawn, there's no point in my mentioning another vegetarian, is there?

But I will.

My mother, a proper vegetarian, was seriously ill in hospital. It was known that she was vegetarian and, when she first arrived in hospital, her food had to be chosen for her. Her family was not around for the lunch delivery but were just in time to see the plate of some sort of fish (might have been whiting or coley), mashed potato and peas. She could not eat it. She could not eat the potato or peas either because they were contaminated had their taste affected by the presence of the fish. She had to go without lunch.

Catchingmockingbirds · 22/01/2013 10:13

You can't really trust the labelling in Tesco either so I'd leave that bit out of your complaint.

lovelyladuree · 22/01/2013 10:37

I know a 'vegetarian' who eats chicken so I think this argument falls on it's arse, tbh.

PessaryPam · 22/01/2013 11:53

Nope, I won't be doing this as I have a life!
