I need to go to the OOHs surgery this evening. When you go you have to fill in a form to say why you're there. If I just put 'personal' is that ok? Or do they actually need to know to assess how quickly I'll be seen?

It is a personal problem by the way, I'm not just making that up!

They normally only ask so they can make sure you get seen by the right person and in the right order. Saves sending you to a doc if a nurse could handle it I think.

Nixea · 17/12/2012 16:40

Oh, and sorry that you're ill/injured Brew

NoTeaForMe · 17/12/2012 16:41

I've never seen a nurse there...I don't think they have them to see patients. It's OOH-maybe they presume everyone will need a dr? To be fair though I've only been a couple of times!

I never tell the receptionist what is wrong, just I want to see nurse/dr and if I want a female. They don't need to know. You get the odd one that wants to know, insists that they need to know, but they don't. The pushy ones, I tell them to get to medical school, qualify, get a job as a doc and then they will know what is wrong with me. I get the fish reaction, lol, but never refused to see dr.

DozyDuck · 17/12/2012 16:50

It will be kept personal. Sometimes some doctors are better with certain stuff than others. Plus they're likely to want to
Get someone who could be highly contagious into isolation.

Hope you're ok

HazeltheMcWitch · 17/12/2012 16:52

It's the first stage in assessing you - you're not being judged.

So - shortness of breath, very might need to be seen sooner than infected boil for 3 days.

Or it could be a cut that needs redressing, which a nurse might be the right person for.

Roseformeplease · 17/12/2012 16:53

My Mum's response to this is always, "If I knew what was wrong with me I wouldn't need to see the doctor". - and she was a nurse!

susanann · 17/12/2012 16:54

I would just say its personal

NoTeaForMe · 17/12/2012 16:55

I wouldn't even know what to put...I'll tell you and you can tell me!

I'm 18 weeks pregnant and have one very swollen labia! MNers have diagnosed me with possibly a bartholins cyst or a varicose vein. Either spuds horrible and mortifying to me! What do I put on her silly form?!

BaublesAndCuntingCarolSingers · 17/12/2012 16:58

Hurty minge.

FeckOffCup · 17/12/2012 16:59

I would just put pregnancy related illness on the form and leave it at that. I don't think the receptionists need to know details, at my surgery they have a list up of things the nurse deals with and ask you doctor or nurse when you book and that seems sensible.

Shelby2010 · 17/12/2012 16:59

Just put 'pregnancy related problem'.

If you put 'personal' they might just think it's an STD or something lodged where it shouldn't be!

Nixea · 17/12/2012 17:00
Grin
OhlimpPricks · 17/12/2012 17:03

Just tell them you don't want to discuss it, but it is a problem that needs prompt attention. Receptionists are not medically qualified, and should not be undertaking triage duties IMO.

NotWankinginaWinterWonderland · 17/12/2012 17:03

Blush Sorry...

Just put 'some arse with wanker in her name suggested a huge cyst on my PRIVATES'?

Or 'Personal'

Good luck and I hope not but if yes all fine... honestly!

maddening · 17/12/2012 17:10

Ooh are usually arranged by a triage nurse not receptionist as the nurse makes sure you're seeing the right person (ooh Dr/a&e/refer you back to your own gp during opening hours as it isn't deemed urgent.

MrsChristmasVamos · 17/12/2012 17:12

Baubles !

What makes me laugh is that I know that's exactly what you'd put. Xmas Grin

Thefoxsbrush · 17/12/2012 17:13

I work as a receptionist in a walk in centre and it's absolutely fine to put personal on the form. The receptionist uses the reason that is given to advice whether pt in suitable place. For example, if they put 'toothache' I would re-direct them to OOH dentist as our nurses wouldn't deal with that. Then, the reason for attendance is put on the computer for the triage nurse to see - if she see's shortness of breath she will probably triage this case more urgently than headache for 3 weeks and she will assign the most suitable pt's to the GP or nurse.

My sex is on fire?

Narked · 17/12/2012 17:14

Xmas Grin at 'hurty minge'

MrsChristmasVamos · 17/12/2012 17:15

My DH just suggested ' Possible Pussey Pussy'.

Narked · 17/12/2012 17:16

I'm sorry OP. I hope your bits feel better soon.

shewhowines · 17/12/2012 17:17

It's varicose veins and immediately after giving birth they will disappear. Honestly nothing to worry about and very common.

Just put pregnancy related

Timeforabiscuit · 17/12/2012 17:19

I would just put down relevant facts, your 18 weeks pregnant and the area around your labia is twice it's normal size and is hot - or whatever symptoms you have.

But two dds later and I've stopped worrying what the receptionist, her mate next door and the queue behind me hear as long as I get seen!! Grin

But honestly I hope you get an appointment quickly it sounds really painful and you will never say anything that they haven't heard of before Xmas Smile

NoTeaForMe · 17/12/2012 17:37

I really don't want to put too much info-I don't think there's any need for that. I think I'll say 'personal pregnancy related problem' will that do?
