to send vouchers for Xmas

I fell out massively with my sister last month over her not bothering with my DCs and her also slagging me off to people about my pregnancy with DC4 , but I still want to send my nephew a card for Christmas and some vouchers so he can get what he wants, normally I'd buy him a present but as I don't want to go and see my sister I thought this was a good alternative .

My mum thinks I am being petty and it's mean to just send vouchers and I should just suck it up and takeep

Bloody phone.

My mum says I should just suck it up andtake a present to him.

Aibu in not wanting to as vouchers are a reasonable present?

You can send a present?

ruledbyheart · 17/12/2012 16:39

Don't really know what he would want, as don't know him that well, normally would ask my sister but that's no longer an option.

I wouldn't send vouchers because of the risk of the shop going bust or him not being able to get to that shop. There's no more thought in a voucher than some cash/a cheque in a card, which is much more useful to the recipient.

Or you could post a present or get a third party to drop it around.

bluebiscuit · 17/12/2012 16:41

How old is he? You can get something fairly generic for his age group?

ruledbyheart · 17/12/2012 16:42

They would be Argos vouchers and don't want to send cash as my sister is always skint (see previous thread) and I don't believe he would get the money.

He is 3 but severely autistic and I have don't want to upset him with something he doesnt like

She could buy a huge assortment of stuff in Argos without giving him the voucher.

KellyEllyChristmasBelly · 17/12/2012 16:45

How old is he? What about some Smyths toys vouchers (if he is young enough) otherwise your sister might spend the argos vouchers on herself if she'd take the cash!

bluebiscuit · 17/12/2012 16:45

You are safe with Thomas stuff. The faces appeal to autistic children in particular.

ruledbyheart · 17/12/2012 16:49

Good point about the vouchers being used on herself, the problem is in my town it's the only shop that does vouchers other than Tescos lol and with 3 under 5 dcs here and being pregnant travelling at the moment is rather difficult.

Amazon will deliver directly to them without you going out - can even get them to giftwrap! They will have tonnes of Thomas stuff

bluebiscuit · 17/12/2012 16:53

Oh and you will be able to write a note for amazon to include.

anniewoo · 17/12/2012 16:54

Vouchers are great I think but for older childten. As the child is so young and you fear the mum might spend it herself it is best to get a present. Why not start a new thread - best present for a severly autistic 3 year old. Wise MNrtters will soom give you an answer.

Great ideas thank you, didn't think of ordering online and will ask about this in SN forum.
