My lovely dd2 (4 yo) has adored a John Lewis soft toy reindeer that looks like this but is a bigger version. They sold it at Christmas in 2010 and haven't sold it since.

She lost it a couple of months ago and she is still devastated. She thinks he's gone to help Father Christmas and he's going to come back to her on Christmas day Sad Sad Sad

It's:

  • made of fleece
  • has a red and green scarf
  • is about 25 - 30 cm high
  • will have a John Lewis tag on it

I have trawled ebay, john lewis and the whole world wide web. I've emailed John Lewis. I've bought the second hand small version of that reindeer and she isn't interested. I really have to pull out all the stops to try and find a replacement. Another that looks quite similar REALLY isn't going to work. She's quite clever like that.

Do you have one sitting at home that your dc doesn't use?

I'll buy it off you! PLEASE - go and have a check now!!

Thanks

Over and out.

If I had one I'd give it to you.

Really hope you get one. Smile

Thank you Laurie.

FirstTime - yes I did. They checked their warehouses but don't have any reindeers in stock. Because it was 2 years ago, they've long sold out.

If I had one, I would send it to you :(
Bumping in the hope that a kind MN'er may have one.
Good luck.

StNiChaolas · 17/12/2012 09:08

Oh how awful.

Try and keep this thread bymped, if MN can't help, no one can...

CiderwithBuda · 17/12/2012 09:12

Maybe repost with more detail in your thread title? Might just jog someone's memory.

MrsHoarder · 17/12/2012 09:13

In case you can't find one, could you buy one like this and have a letter about having antlers trimmed/clothes changed etc by the lovely Mrs Claus? Hope someone has one though.

MrsHoarder · 17/12/2012 09:16

And don't forget to put lots of glitter magic dust in with the letter.

If you fail, why not do this:

Write her a lovely card from Santa. Have it say something like "Dear DD, I know how much you love , he/she has been so helpful over Christmas and guess what? He/she has had a baby reindeer. Unfortunately, we are so busy with Christmas and we are even starting to get ready for NEXT Christmas. I hope you won't mind too much, but I've asked to help us out for another year or two. But PLEASE PLEASE could you help us out and look after the baby reindeer until he is all grown up. I know it is not the same and does really miss you, but he/she insisted you were the only person who was lovely enough to look after such a frightened little newborn reindeer." Etc.

It's not ideal, but by making her feel Santa himself has asked for a favour it might go down ok.
HTH

OHforDUCKSchristmasCake · 17/12/2012 10:08

Happily thats a good idea.

What a heart breaker. I really hope this has a happy conclusion. Sad

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 17/12/2012 10:09

HappilyUnhiged that is genius.

flow4 · 17/12/2012 10:12

I lost my Little Dog when I was 3. My parents told me he was going Round the World With Ant and Bee. I was very sad, but I could see that it was a fantastic opportunity for Little Dog, so I was brave. :)

Maybe compose a letter from Reindeer now, along the lines of "Dear DD, Are you excited about Christmas? I am! Santa says he couldn't have managed without me, and he says 'thank you' to you, for letting me come and help. I was really hoping to come back to live with you on Christmas Day, but I hadn't realised how busy things are at Santa's Workshop. (Did you know that everyone at the North Pole starts getting ready for next Christmas as soon as this one is over?!) If I come back to you, there will be lots of children next year who won't get presents, which would be very sad. I know you will understand, because you are very kind. I miss you, but we can think about each other often, and I will write you a letter each Christmas. Lots of love, Reindeer. xx. P.S. Rudolf sends his love too!"

flow4 · 17/12/2012 10:13

Hahaha, cross posted with HappilyUnhinged! Grin One of these cunning plans might just work!

WorraLorraTurkey · 17/12/2012 10:18

Well I was going to ask why a 4yr old has been allowed to think the toy has gone to help FC and will be back on Christmas day, rather than being told she's lost it...and as awful as that is, these things do happen from time to time.

But I think under the circumstances HappilyUnhinged's idea is genius! Xmas Grin

claudedebussy · 17/12/2012 13:30

Worra - yes. I fucked up on that. I had bought the small version off ebay but hadn't actually received it yet so hadn't realised the calamity that was about to descend. So full of my brilliance, smugness and general twattish arrogance I told her that perhaps he had gone to visit Father Christmas. After all she had left him on a plane. Sad

So once the tiny ebay replica arrived I was already up shit creek. I then gave it to her as one of her prizes from a sticker chart thus scuppering any further plan B / C or D.

Happily, Flow4 - brilliant plan B which I'll move onto after Plan A has failed.

Thanks everyone else for posting. That knitted JL one is very different, but the Hamleys one might actually work.

The ebay listing you found kaydee, looks pretty close. I've emailed the seller.

Thanks

Oh it wasn't smugness or twattish arrogance, you're a parent thinking on your feet...and lord knows we've all done that and got it wrong!

I hope someone can help if we keep this thread bumped when the evening posters arrive.

bubby64 · 17/12/2012 15:18

Havent got one, but will keep bumping up the post, Mnet ladies were very helpful with my Christmas pressie dilemma, so hope they can help you too!

OnwardBound · 17/12/2012 15:26

Yes, I also wondered could you contact the airline and have them check their lost property?

Which airline is it?

Perhaps you could namecheck them here, good PR for them [if they are very good and helpful] just prior to Christmas...!
