Am I the only one who doesn't like mulled wine?

I mean, yeuch! I like my wine as, well, wine! I don't want all that weird stuff in it.

And warm?! What!! Chilled for white, room temp for red - thank you very much!!

We've just polished off 7 bottles of the stuff!

CharltonHairstyle · 16/12/2012 19:18

Rotten stuff. Ewww

honeytea · 16/12/2012 19:30

I love mulled wine so long as no one ruins it by boiling away all the alcohol, then it is just like ribena

HeathcliffeItsMe · 16/12/2012 19:37

No, it's horrible.

Bingdweller · 16/12/2012 19:40

It's bloody rank.

CaliforniaSucksSnowballs · 16/12/2012 19:41

I quite like the smell but not the taste.
I'll stick to baileys and mince pies (with lots of fresh cream on)

manicinsomniac · 16/12/2012 19:42

I've never tried it because just the smell of it makes me gag. Blegh.

Shakey1500 · 16/12/2012 19:47

I don't like it either, especially if there's a strong whiff of cloves in it.

Reminds me too much of the Great Dental Disaster Of 2001 Where Shakey Almost Overdosed On Pankillers Due To THE Worst Toothache In The History Of Achy Teeth And Where The Emergency Dentist Found Her Slumped On His Doorway As She Literally Collapsed In Agony.

I was in Munich last week (working) and spent an evening in the city centre browsing the Christmas markets with a colleague.

We needed a warm drink and nothing but glühwein would have done!

I can't say it's my favourite thing to drink, but it's got its place.

magimedi88 · 16/12/2012 19:51

Mulled wine is the work of the devil!

Gin is where it's at!

For sure!

SecretSantaFix · 16/12/2012 19:53

I can't stand mulled wine, mainly because I hate red wine.

PatTheHammer · 16/12/2012 19:57

It tastes like I'm inhaling one of my Mum's 'Christmas Pot Pourri' creations from 1994. Grim.

peaceandlovebunny · 16/12/2012 19:58

i'm not keen on mulled wine or baileys. i like a well-aged single malt.

TheElfOnThePanopticon · 16/12/2012 20:41

I like the idea of mulled wine mire than the drink itself, and it is often far too sweet, but I still like it. Baileys, on the other hand, is acceptable as a sweet sauce but not as a drink.

WhoKnowsWhereTheMistletoes · 16/12/2012 20:44

Baileys is unacceptable in any circumstances (unless I needed an emetic). Red wine or gin are the drinks for me. Mulled wine is a waste of red wine.

hugoagogo · 16/12/2012 20:52

Pass it on over to me then.

I promise to hand over any stollen that comes my way.Wink

forbiddenfruit85 · 16/12/2012 23:37

Its the only wine I can really tolerate

Imabadmum · 16/12/2012 23:44

Mulled wine is vile, not a big fan of red wine tbh, but hot, with sugar and spices in??? Bleurgh.

MrsChristmasVamos · 16/12/2012 23:50

I do not like mulled wine either.

I adore snowballs.

However, I recommend giving Robinson's 'seasonal' squash a try 'Red Berries'.

Smells like mulled wine, tastes like mulled wine but with no nasty aftertaste. Can be drunk cold or warm. I reckon a glug of vodka would give it the necessary kick.

I also do not like most squashes. The only other one I like is Apple and Pear, but that's by the by, really. Xmas Grin

SantaFlashesHisBoobsALot · 16/12/2012 23:50

YANBU. Its foul. Ew.

ReindeerOutdoors · 16/12/2012 23:56

I don't like it much either. I try to, because it's Christmassy, but I just can't. Sad

SantaWearsGreen · 17/12/2012 01:52

Sweet?! I got everything but sweet from it.

I don't like the taste of wine, or alcohol full stop really but I heard good things about mulled wine being fruity and cinnamony- both of which I love. So I bought a bottle and warmed some up. Eurghhh. It tasted no different to any other wine, just makes me pull a sour face and I really can't drink it. I was expecting it to be all fruity and delicious and nothing like normal wine but felt very let down Sad

I wish I could be like 90% (complete guess) of other adults who ENJOY the taste of booze. It makes me gip. I really wanted mulled wine to work to get me feeling festive and merry but fail. I'll have to stick to hot chocolate and accept a life as a teetotaller..

Wingedharpy · 17/12/2012 02:43

Don't like mulled wine much as a drink but last week due to reasons I won't bore you with, I made mulled wine jelly. Gorgeous!

AlexReidsLonelyThisChristmas · 17/12/2012 03:55

The ready to drink ones are rank.
It's alright, minus cloves, cloves taste of toothache.

PumpkinPositive · 17/12/2012 08:32

I hate wine full stop.

Not too fussed about chocolate either. I'd eat it if I were starving.
