...to be concerned about this breach of confidentiality?

I met a HV socially last night, and in the course of our conversation she told me and another mum (also a HV) that a member of staff at our DC's school was 'on her books', and she explained why (a health issue).
I'm really not happy to now know something about an individual that I have no right to know, but i don't want to formally report this HV. I was thinking about contacting the department and complaining in a general kind of way, asking perhaps if they could reiterate the importance of confidentiality to their staff.
WWYD?

Are you a HV? Just with you saying another mum also a HV. If you are then I don't think she has breached anything. If you aren't then really you need to report it.

no, i'm not a HV. I'm actually a nurse, but the woman didn't know WHO I was when she said this.

I'd have said something at the time actually. Why didn't you?

takataka · 16/12/2012 11:18

I think you should have told the HV who disclosed the information, last night

Why don't you phone her up and tell her that she shouldn't have told you that information.

What she did is very very bad indeed.

donteatthefiggypudding · 16/12/2012 11:31

yes, point taken that i maybe should have brought it up at the time. i simply gave no response, and neither did the other HV.
I cant phone the woman, Brycie - i had never met her before and am very unlikely to ever again!

That's bang out of order. I feel for the poor woman who's information she devulged. That's not very professional at all.

ProtegeMoi · 16/12/2012 11:57

Definately needs reporting and you should have told her.

So out of order to tell people things like that!

You can go to the NMC or her employer. I would if I were you.
