Got a curry meal deal where we got two main course curries, pilau rice, aloo gobi and two huge naan breads. Dh and me aren't birdlike waifs and nor are the three kids, and we only just got through it in one meal. Db thinks its cheap and pennypinching to share one of these between all five of us but imo the portions are so massive there'd be something wrong if two people could eat it between them. Aibu?

DH and I could quite happily polish that off between us. Doesn't mean there's anything 'wrong' with us. People just have different appetites.

MerylStrop · 14/12/2012 22:47

We did the same thing the other night, there was plenty!
Never usually eat ready meals, but DH did the shopping...and picked it up reduced to £5

ConfusedPixie · 14/12/2012 22:51

Dp and I can clear one of those in one meal sometimes, and other times it will last us two or three meals. they are good value imo!

I'm with Welsh.....I find DH and I could cheerfully eat a Tesco's 'feed a family of 4' meal between us, frankly, if it's a pasta bake, say. There's certainly not enough for four, unless you have a 3 and 5 year old perhaps. You'd end up with 2 tablespoons each.

Kendodd · 14/12/2012 22:51

Or you could just eat what you want and throw the rest away. Then YWBU

ouryve · 14/12/2012 22:52

If we choose carefully, with some extra veg we can usually feed the 4 of us with the M&S meal for a tenner. If we get chicken, then there's always some left for another meal because DS1 won't touch the stuff.

When they had the takeaway for 2 for £8, I chose dahl for both of the side options and cooked my own rice and got 2 meals for DH and I.

WelshMaenad · 14/12/2012 22:52

Ken, we feed leftovers to our rats. ITU?

EndoplasmicReticulum · 14/12/2012 23:01

We do this. The ASDA curry banquet thing is supposed to be "for 2" - and we share it between 4. The only thing we add is a bit more rice. We're not of the bird-like appetite persuasion either - and my husband is frankly a greedy man.

Next time we get one I'll look at the calorie information - I bet it's a generous calorie and fat allowance between 4, let alone 2.

Eastpoint · 14/12/2012 23:06

YANBU

We can share them between 2 adults, DD14 DS13 & DD11. DH & I don't eat the pudding though, we're not pudding people.

MrsKeithRichards · 14/12/2012 23:08

It's not tight or penny pinching because it's expensive!

CoolaYuleA · 14/12/2012 23:13

Our local chinese does 4 dishes for £10. We usually get two mains, a rice and a noodle side and this feeds three adults with leftovers. Because the £1 delivery charge puts it over £10 they give us a bag of prawn crackers too.

Ridiculously good value for money - and best of all it's really good food.

LulaBear · 15/12/2012 01:09

Like WelshMaenad said, people have different appetites. If you fed 5 people on it and your family was complaining of hunger, that would be bad. If everyone is happy and satisfied, what does it matter how much you spent! Please don't feel bad because you think a nice meal should cost more.
My mum would probably buy some chicken, a jar of curry sauce, the equivalent amount of rice and some pre-cooked naan breads and my whole family grew up loving curry. Please don't worry about a meal-deal Smile

Terrywoganstrousers · 15/12/2012 03:30

I've just ordered the Waitrose one for £10- two mains, a rice and two sides. We are not sparrows, DP has a massive appetite, but we would struggle to eat this in one meal! We've had it before and found that by either cooking our own rice for one meal or ordering an extra rice, it does us two meals.

Whiteteeth · 15/12/2012 05:41

These must be bigger than the last time I had them! I could easily eat the lot on my own, and polish of the wine too! Pig
