To have bought dh a Tassimo for his birthday?

Dh's birthday on the 21st and I have bought him the above. He asked a couple if years ago for a coffee machine and has mentioned one several times since. It is the only thing I have ever said a categorical no to.

I am a tea drinker, I cant stand the taste of coffee and find the smell overbearing. I can not go into a Costa's/starbucks etc for that very reason. The last thing I want is my house stinking of the stuff.

So it really is the last thing he is expecting. Now I know it isn't a real coffee grinder/brewer, but there does seem to be a good range of coffee's available.

So aibu in thinking that this is a good substitute for the real thing? And that as it is only a one cup at a time machine that it wont stink my house out?

Btw it was between that and a laser projection keyboard, which would have appealed to his geeky gadget nature, but be used much less in the long run.

I have one and love it. Horses for courses, really.

Hmmm, YANBU to not want a coffee machine if you can't stand the smell (taramasalata is banned here for same reason) but if he's into proper coffee YABU to buy him one if those silly sachet machine things. I love coffee but they are pretty rank compared to freshly ground beans.

But does the smell linger?
I mean it's too late now i've bought the thing. But i'm hoping i'm right in my thinking it wont.

No he's not a coffee snob, but he does like to be able to smell his coffee, and it was a brewer he was really after. But he wouldn't inflict it on me. I'm hoping there is enough choice to keep him happy.

Can't answer that as I'm immune to the smell. Starbucks etc don't smell of coffee to me. Do you have a shed, garage or similar? You could take it back and get him a proper coffee machine but make him use it in there?

PartridgeInASpicyPearTree · 14/12/2012 19:24

That was tongue in cheek btw, forgot the Smile Blush

Pizzaexpress2 · 14/12/2012 19:32

Hi. I am similar in that at I can't stand coffee. I got one for dh 3 years ago and he still absolutely loves it. I got him a dolce gusto thingy. Not the best coffee but such a compromise between proper coffee an instant. The pods are expensive, but in the great scheme of things a box of pods isn't much more than Trip to Starbucks.
He will be really chuffed I'm sure. It's one of those really loving, thoughtful presents.
Stick with it. Brill idea.

Tassimo is a good machine for you as it also makes hot choc, herbal teas, etc

fourandahalfkids · 14/12/2012 19:38

Partridge- i'd never see him! And i did think the kids could use it for frothy hot chocolate too (bit naughty i know, but we r a sharing family).

Thank you Pizza, i do think he will love it. Just wasn't sure if i was being a bit mean, I suppose the smell of coffee brewing is supposed to add to the enjoyment (gag). He can sniff the nozzle as it's being poured maybe.

From what you've said it's perfect and a good compromise. I'm just a coffee snob. But I would enjoy the hot chocolate.
