To try and put DS off Cbeebies now that he is 8?

Or am I just sick of it on my own account? I keep saying things like 'But this is for babies, DS,' and 'Isn't it a bit boring for a big boy like you?'
OK he does also like to watch Challenge and Dr Who, and read, and it's not like he spends his life in front of the telly, but surely most kids are sick of Cbeebies by the time they are 8.

My Ds1 just turned 8 still likes a bit of CBeebies. He does watch Citv more now but will happily watch loads of the shows on CBeebies too.

wonderingsoul · 14/12/2012 18:39

nah.. i wouldnt kick up much of a fuss tbh.

ds1 who is 7 will still quite happly watch max and ruby. hes not really into ben 10 etc..though has been known to watch the old school power rangers.

its not like he'll be wtaching it when hes older is it?

My daughter sometimes watches Peppa Frickin Pig, she is 11, according to her it's "brain out TV". I just leave the room.

SantaFlashesHisBoobsALot · 14/12/2012 18:41

Its nicer than the shit they have on CBBC at least.

OvOinAManger · 14/12/2012 18:43

I wonder if it's just a wee comfort thing? They've watched theses shows since they were babies/toddlers. Mine will still watch In The Night Garden if it's on!

Aman1975 · 14/12/2012 18:43

My 9yo DS loves Wizzards v Aliens on cbbc. If you can get the iplayer get him to watch a couple of episodes of that it's actualyl quite good.

Meandmycats · 14/12/2012 18:44

What harm is it doing? I'm 31 and I still like Disney Pixar films, and lots of cheesy 'kids' films. I'm also married and have a full time job, so I don't think I'm particularly 'babyish.' Him liking those programmes isn't hurting anyone. If you don't like them then yanbu to tell him you're not going to watch them as you personally don't like them, but I don't think there's anything wrong with him still watching the programmes.

DorisIsWaiting · 14/12/2012 18:45

DD is 7 (but yr3) She happily watches Cbeebies with her younger sisters. We have a mix as some of the stuff on CBBC is too old for her but she enjoys Pet school and newsround etc.... She wouldn't go near Dr Who (even Scooby Doo has her hiding behind the sofa).

I really wouldn't worry if he's happy.

rednosedreindeerinthegarden · 14/12/2012 18:46

agree with others - cbeebies is harmless, and we all like to 'dumb down' sometimes!

DuchessofMalfi · 14/12/2012 18:56

Like Doris, I think a lot of CBBC stuff is aimed at much older children. My DD is 6 (yr 2) and happily watches Cbeebies and Nick Jr. I record a few things from CBBC for her to watch eg Blue Peter, and Junior Masterchef (which she loved), but mostly she's happy to sit and watch what her brother (age 3) watches.

Ds and I had a little secret- whille his big sister and his dad were at Scouts we used to watch In the Night Garden together. It only stopped when he started going to Scouts himself at nearly 11. We still miss it- and whisper "Iggle Piggle" into each other's ears sometimes as a code for "I love you"

OP- the secret is not to watch it yourself- you know it's fine to watch by himself so go and do something else!

SolidGoldFrankensteinandmurgh · 14/12/2012 19:22

Thanks everyone, I will let him carry on. I suppose it was bothering me because I'm concerned about possible ASD/Aspergers and waiting to talk to the SENCO about it, and I have been fretting about him being too obviously childish for his age in some aspects. THough yesterday he was watching Pet Squad on CBBC and loving it, so I shall just stop worrying.

I'd let him make the call. He'll tell you when he's grown out of it. :)

thebody · 14/12/2012 19:34

Why???? My very sophisticated 13 year old makeup wearing dd watched the Christmas tweenies special last night. So bloody what?

Let him enjoy it.

deleted203 · 14/12/2012 19:39

Don't knock it. Wish my DS (7) was still into CBeebies, to be frank. He seems to spend time, if given the choice, watching DisneyChannel crap aimed at teenage girls (worryingly!). Lots and lots of American shite like 'Kicking It' and 'Pair of Kings'. I'd far rather be watching CBeebies.

Chubfuddler · 14/12/2012 19:40

I wish there was something in between cbeebies and CBbc for the benefit of the 5 to 8 age range, some of CBbc is much too old and most of cbeebies far too young for them. That said DS still lives rastamouse, octonauts, mike the knight and Charlie and Lola. I don't think those programmes are all that young for that age range - they seem about right to me
