Was I Being Unreasonable to point out the potential to offend in this FarceBook post?

I may have made a total twat of myself, the person (not the person who posted it) arguing against me certainly thinks I am. The picture reads:

Dear God, grant me the patience to endure the window-licking, crayon-eating, helmet-wearing fucktards I'll encounter today.

So, outrageously offensive or harmlessly humorous?

An unfortunate side effect

None of my fb friends would be likely to post that; and if they did post it then they wouldn't be my friend for much longer.

But love "bigotted wankpuppets"! Grin

MarcelineTheVampireQueen · 14/12/2012 19:11

How could your friend NOT know that this was offensive? Seriously..nearly every second word is offensive. You would have to be living under a rock not to know that!

PurplePidjChickIsNotTheMessiah · 14/12/2012 19:20

I have some very sweet but very daft friends, it's entirely credible that the poster has never been told that the language is offensive. Many people aren't involved in that world and/or just don't think that deeply about stuff. Like i said, i pointed it out, she apologised

Then this knobjockey dude added his 2p...

Saying "its a joke" is usually the knobjockey defence isn't it??!! Smile and wave and be glad you aren't friends with them!

hazeyjane · 14/12/2012 19:26

It is foul, and I would be defriennding.

Enfyshedd, really!!

LadyIsabellasHollyWreath · 14/12/2012 19:49

To everyone saying "it's not worth arguing, just defriend" surely the point of this story is that it is worth pointing it out. The OP's friend, who posted this without engaging her brain, has taken her point, learned something, and won't do it again - they will stay friends.

The fuckwit FOAF is the problem here.

As with the "racist MN" thread - a lot of posters assume that there are just two types of people in the world: right thinking people like us, and irredeemable bastards. But I reckon that there are a fair number of people simply still living in the 1970s, and although some of them are beyond hope, a load more can catch up with a bit of encouragement.

chrismissymoomoomee · 14/12/2012 19:52

Its worth pointing out to her friend who she knows. Its not worth arguing with the idiot who made the page or link or whatever it was, people like that thrive off the negative attention, usually backed up by a load of like minded people. If they don't get attention they may get bored, if they do they will continue to offend people for laughs.
