AIBU to be offended by DD's Christmas list?

MrsDermotOLeary · 14/12/2012 16:53

DD is 6 and is really getting into the spirit this Christmas. She has made a list of things she would like for herself and she has also written a list of things she would like to buy for various members of the family.
It reads like this:

Nanny - box of chocolates
Auntie X - box of chocolates

All good so far. Then:

Mummy - Famous Five Book
Daddy - Encyclopaedia of the history of the world

Does she think I'm thick? Xmas Hmm

And why do I not get any chocs?

Ha ha!!!

nickelbabylyinginamanger · 14/12/2012 16:54

no, she thinks you'll like the famous Five.

(maybe she knows you'll find the list and is putting you off the scent!)

Xmas Grin
SunflowersSmile · 14/12/2012 16:55

No it means you are special..
It is different to chocs and perhaps a story she loves and wants you to read to her...

Convert · 14/12/2012 16:55

I would get her a lump of coal for Christmas and tell her she must have been on the naughty list. That'll teach her

MrsChristmasVamos · 14/12/2012 16:55

No.

It sounds like she is 6 and tried to think about what Mummy would like.

Have you read it to her, or discussed it with her ? Is that why she thought you would like it ? Or has she read it and liked so, so thought you would ?

Over-thinking too much methinks !

MrsChristmasVamos · 14/12/2012 16:56

Oops, one too many so's. Alopogies.

MrsFlibble · 14/12/2012 16:56

I think its sweet that she wants to get you a gift, whatever she gives, treasure it, when shes older it'll bring back fond memories.

purrpurr · 14/12/2012 16:56

Oooh, Famous Five book! Better than some poxy encyclopaedia.

CelstialNavigation · 14/12/2012 16:58

Are you a competent homemaker who makes beds out of bracken and happiest when you are sorting out a damp cave to make it into a cosy place to live? Or are you more in the style of George, quite a misogynist?

doyouwantfrieswiththat · 14/12/2012 16:58

My 4 yr old son thinks his dad wants lego for christmas..think there may be an element of transference there...

Whoknowswhocares · 14/12/2012 17:00

Aww that's lovely! She wants you to have a book which SHE considers a great read, so that you can enjoy it too.

What's not to like?

SPsFanjoIsSantasLittleHoHoHo · 14/12/2012 17:00

My son pointed at a electric shaver on a Argos advert and said "me buy you that mum"

So I'd rather be thought of as a bit thick then hairy Grin

SallyCinnamonandNutmeg · 14/12/2012 17:00

I would be delighted with an Enid Blyton book personally (altho would prefer something from the Adventure series than Famous Five)

Maybe you can just nick a few of Nanny's chocs when she opens them??

Perhaps it's Daddy she thinks is thick if he needs an encyclopaedia! Smile

HazelnutinCaramel · 14/12/2012 17:01

Depends whether she sees you as an Anne or a George...

chrismissymoomoomee · 14/12/2012 17:01

DH once gave DS some money to go and buy anything he wanted for my birthday. DS asked to be dropped off at Tesco...I ended up with a bowl, 4 spoons and a 48 pack of weetabix Xmas Grin

ChaoticforlifenotjustChristmas · 14/12/2012 17:01

Sorry, OP, but that made me literally lol Xmas Grin

I suspect that, as with doyouwant's DS, there's some transference there Xmas Grin

MyLastDuchess · 14/12/2012 17:01

Made me laugh!!!

TheWombat · 14/12/2012 17:06

Awww, OP I think this is really cute. I think she wants to give you something that you can talk about and share together. :)

And I think she has great taste in books!

Pantomimedam · 14/12/2012 17:06

aw, I'm going to go with the 'that's really sweet' brigade. I think people who say it's a book she enjoys and thinks you might like are on the right lines. Daddy is the one who she thinks requires assistance - clearly you have no need of an encyclopedia because you know it all already!

MrsDermotOLeary · 14/12/2012 17:22

Xmas Grin neither celstial

Arf at SP unwrapping her shaver on Christmas day Xmas Grin

Yes it's very sweet. I'm not really offended!
She has read nearly all of the Famous Five books (and the Adventure series Sally!) and it's a bit of a family joke that when she leaves a FF book lying around I pick it up and read it. So nostalgic!

I think she's fed up of me nicking her books!

MrsDermotOLeary · 14/12/2012 17:23

Pantomimedam I like your thinking!

OP posts:
SallyCinnamonandNutmeg · 14/12/2012 17:36

I'd still try and half inch a few of Nanny's chocolates though.

kerala · 14/12/2012 18:06

I asked DD (aged 6) what she really wants for Christmas. Answer "for x to be kind" x being the class evil alpha girl who zips round the friendship groups causing misery and mayhem. One thing money absolutely cannot buy...
