I'd like to belatedly use this to encourage my terrible two year old to stop assaulting her twin baby brothers!

Unconditional parenting aspirations tossed recklessly aside in an effort to prevent head injuries being inflicted on two small boys :)

TIA

Bump.

Is it poor etiquette to bump your own post?

They have them in Barnes and noble. Everyone has the freaky buggering things over here. My kids named theirs "crazy johnny" and were pretty scared the first year about this creepy looking doll that follows them around spying like santa's S.S

Flyingfruit · 13/12/2012 04:22

Don't need elf on shelf if you have a burglar alarm. If you have burglar alarm just tell them every time the movement sensor flashes red it's father Christmas watching!

Oldmanriver · 13/12/2012 04:56

Got any Robins about? We used to tell our two they were Santa's spies. Now we are in the US I have to put up with the gurning smug-faced little twat around the house and the daily hunt for his location. It might have to be CSI:Elf Edition next....

peaceandlovebunny · 13/12/2012 06:23

i bought an elf on the shelf? why don't i remember that? where is it now?

StrawberrytallCAKE · 13/12/2012 06:50

I got mine from the book depository online - here

KenDoddsDadsDog · 13/12/2012 07:23

Mine is a recycled julenisse (Norwegian elf) from my childhood. I reckon any shops that are selling scandi stuff will have them as its so popular at the moment.

450fromPaddington · 13/12/2012 07:28

Thanks for the replies.

Flyingfruit - you are an evil genius with that idea! She has asked what those little red lasers are for. I'm so tempted to use the idea. Although maybe oldmanriver's robin spy idea is a little less sinisterGrin

Just imagining DD years from now in a psychiatrists office. But it's true doctor! They're watching me through the alarm sensors!!
Doctor peering over specs and nodding "yeeees, tell me more about that"

We ring Santa at bedtime - DD went and got the phone herself last night. She's only three though so she hasn't worked out its only grandad at the moment.

Faireenuff · 13/12/2012 07:47

Macys.com deliver to uk. Elf much cheaper than amazon. Arrived in about 4 days. Was painless.

MrsKeithRichards · 13/12/2012 08:04

I email a report to Santa at the end of the day.

He thinks that's what I'm doing when I'm mumsnetting!

thegreylady · 13/12/2012 08:09

I have a special code to call Santa's elves :-) It is used to report good or naughty behaviour and can only be told to grandparents. The dgc will be given it when they have dgc themselves.

BigShinyBaubles · 13/12/2012 08:12

I haven't got a clue what they are!
Never heard of them.

450fromPaddington · 13/12/2012 08:41

Am liking the grandparents code, perhaps the elves will tell my parents what it is greylady
bigshinybaubles I happened across numerous references to these elves on MN. Never heard of them in RL
mrsrichards, that may be the best excuse EVER to give children to explain away Internet time
fairenough thanks for the tip. Getting a delivery from Macy's sounds like a really Christmassy treat
kendodds what does your DD think of the calls to Santa? What do you say? What does she say? Does it encourage her to "be good"?

OP posts:
KenDoddsDadsDog · 13/12/2012 09:05

If she is being naughty it requires an emergency call to Santa. We say "oh no, Santa has to know so he can stop making the toys " She's only 3 so she generally stops dead what she's doing. If not then we really do phone. We say " DD is doing xxx" and then "Santa is a bit cross with you DD, he may miss you out."
Last night she came home from nursery and we phoned to say "Just to let you know Santa, DD has been a good girl , remember not to miss our house out . DD has cake for you." She was beaming!

Changeforthrday · 13/12/2012 09:08

Ours was from the Book Depository (someone on here told me about them). Ours just crept out of his box last night (I've been sick and couldnt be bothered sooner) so he needs to do something amusing soon!

450fromPaddington · 13/12/2012 10:36

ken that's cute that she was so pleased!
change I can see my elf-to-be eating a lot of sweets, you can borrow that idea if you like (once you feel better!)
