To be very cross with Father Christmas

A bit of background - DS (6) has been asking for a Wii U. He already has a Wii so isn't going to get one.

Anyway, he went to see Father Christmas at a Christmas market. I had let him go in on his own.

When he came out he was so excited saying "Father Christmas asked me if I want a Wii U!" Since then he has been saying he is going to get a Wii U as Father Christmas asked him if he wanted one.

AIBU to be cross with the man in the red suit as my DS is going to be very disappointed on Christmas morning?

You took him to see a stranger in a costume, who responds to what the children tell him.

YABU.

I really doubt Father Christmas asked him if he wanted a Wii U on his own... sorry!

Silverlace · 11/12/2012 15:23

He tells me FC asked him if he wanted one. I suppose he was an inexperienced FC and doesn't know the form!

They are soooo expensive its unbelievable so i know what you mean by the he wont be getting one. I imagine that if the father christmas has asked him what he wants he said this certain thing theres not alot the poor fc can say he doesnt know what child is getting for christmas but agree it sounds weird that he would be so specific unless he worked for store gaming department and was trying to ramp up sales!

Pandemoniaa · 11/12/2012 15:26

I thought Father Christmasses were trained to be non-commital? In other words, nod, smile and send the children away without any promises. It sounds to me as if your ds has worked out a less than cunning plan so far getting this Wii U is concerned. Or rather not getting it...

BuntyPenfold · 11/12/2012 15:27

A 'Father Christmas' told DN that the tooth fairy always brings £20 Angry
so perhaps this nitwit is the same impersonator.

squeakytoy · 11/12/2012 15:29

as you didnt go in, I somehow doubt FC actually said it.. but your kid has got initiative Wink

Silverlace · 11/12/2012 15:31

The FC we saw was a quick visit as we were at the market, we have a day out soon to see him "properly". WIBU to slip him a note asking to say he has run out of Wii Us?

Bunty - I think there needs to be a national rate for tooth fairy visits, ours always seems a bit mean compared to those that visit friends......

I think FC had some help in getting to that conclusion, and that DS is stretching the conversation slightly! They wouldn't offer a child something, they'd have no idea what the child had or wanted, and it would look awful if he'd offered him something he already had, etc.

I think you have to let him know now that he's not getting one otherwise he will be bitterly disappointed, maybe something along the lines of 'FC might have asked you what you'd like, and you told him a Wii U, but when he got home and checked the records, he realised you already have a Wii so its not fair if you get a Wii U too'?

wonderingsoul · 11/12/2012 16:15

i thgink your ds had stretched the conversation a little bit..or maybe ovwer heard him talking to a friend in que about what he wanted?

allso side note.. dont you need a wii before you can buy a wiiu? a wiiu is somethign that adds on to one?
