To expect my fanjo to ever be the same again?!

I know it's only been 2 weeks since my beautiful girl was born and although I'm not in any pain or discomfort (anymore) from a stitched episiotomy and 2nd degree tear it doesn't feel like 'me' down there yet. Will it ever or is that wishful thinking?
My DS was a CS under GA so a totally different experience so it's all new to me!
Don't worry if you can't reassure me, I just NEED to know either way!

Don't forget scar tissue can be a lot more sensitive so whilst it may never be the same again, that doesn't mean it won't be perfectly fine (or even, dare i say, better.....) but yes pelvic floor exercises are a must!

Fairylea · 11/12/2012 06:01

Mine has never gone exactly back to normal after dd aged 9. I have been told its healed perfectly but I have a slight loss of sensation and (tmi) found my orgasms felt very different and less intense.

It was one of the reasons I went for an elective section with ds 6 months ago.

QuietNinjaChristmasSpecial · 11/12/2012 08:22

Fanjo is fine here! And my pelvic floor is top notch not so stealth boast according to my physio. I had various problems after I gave birth to ds but he's 3 tomorrow Shock and everything's fine.

fuzzypicklehead · 11/12/2012 08:55

Mine was weird after DD1, I think because of the way I was stitched up afterwards. It felt wrong. Luckily DD2 fixed that on her way out, and since they didn't stitch that time it's been fine since.

openerofjars · 11/12/2012 09:03

All I will say is DON'T LOOK!

Two weeks hasn't given it a chance to finish healing yet: if you'd walked into a lamp post it'd still be obvious a fortnight later.

MoomieAndFreddie · 11/12/2012 09:11

omg i am planning DC3 at the moment and have been considering a VBAC (if lucky enough to conceive) as had dc1 and 2 via section

i think i am gonna stick to the c-section, as damage to my fanjo is the thing that worries me most TBH

DearJ0hn · 11/12/2012 09:13

Well, yes.

I am exactly as i ever was... after two births and lots of stitches.

financialwizard · 11/12/2012 09:18

Someone told me to put 2 glasses of milk and 4 drops of lavender into a bath when having a bath as it heals you quicker and is less painful. I was very sceptical but have to say that it worked wonders.

Lesbeadiva · 11/12/2012 09:20

Hmmm I tore almost all the way to my bumBlush nice! And needed an episiotomy. I didn't feel like me down there for quite a while. And no I will never be the same again. I had issues with the scar tissue being sensitive but I healed up fine. I look at it as a new fanjo!

toomuchchristmaspudding · 11/12/2012 09:21

Mine never went back to normal. My sex life has suffered as a result as I just can't feel anything. I also suffer from incontinence.

I am seriously considering Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation.

Fakebook · 11/12/2012 09:26

I had second degree tears with both babies. The second I recovered from really quickly which I think was due to arnica drops I took religiously after DS was born. I really really recommend them.

I don't think I'm the same as pre children, but have become more sensitive in that area, so that's a plus!

Startail · 11/12/2012 09:26

It takes time, but will recover and your boobs won't hit the floor.

I BF for years and years and mine were fine.

Slightly saggy now, but that's ageSad

shadylane · 11/12/2012 09:27

Almost six months after my first vbac sex feels great and I feel normal even though its probably a bit different down there. Had a nine pounder with a cou

shadylane · 11/12/2012 09:27

Ple of stitches. Pilates classes really help with pelvic floor.

EggInABap · 11/12/2012 10:47

Has anyone every had surgery to 'tighten' things up? Interested to hear how it's done and if it works! I imagine such an operation would cost ££££ and not be available on the NHS?

The same as a PP with my first recovery took a looooooooooong time until I felt back to 'normal'. Although it has never returned to the same as pre-baby. With my second baby though I felt back to normal within 2 weeks. Probably because I didn't have stitches with the second!

nickelbabylyinginamanger · 11/12/2012 11:00

Quod Grin

foofooyeah · 11/12/2012 11:07

Ia anyone reading this and not doing their pelvic floor muscles ?? Grin

SundaysGirl · 11/12/2012 12:41

'My clunge felt like it was inside out' ?!!! Shock

But omg that made me laugh!!

FWIW I didn't have g-spot orgasms until about 6 months after I'd given birth. I'm convinced to this day the change was a result of getting 'mangled' during childbirth.

So for me? My bits are not only different but better now. And yep pelvic floor stuff helps as well, especially with the accidental peeing when coughing and laughing etc.

PeppaTwig · 11/12/2012 13:30

Thank you everyone! Most of you have reassured me that at the very least I should stop worrying for a while!
Off to do more pelvic floor exercises now...

'deflated dingy' is the best description I've ever heard of a post-children fanny.

AnyaKnowIt · 11/12/2012 13:36

I had a 2nd degree tear, and my labia was ripped in half. Two weeks after giving birth I was still pissing myself everytime I stood up.

22 months on my fanjo is fine, just keep up with the exercises.

nickelbabylyinginamanger · 11/12/2012 14:09

i do my pelvic floor exercises whenever i'm sitting down these days.

it was soooo hard when i was all swollen down below but i can feel movement.
still doesn't stop me from pissing myself, but one of the cats has taken to sleeping on the toilet lid, and i think he's done it on purpose to test me and my pelvic floor.

so, feeding the baby? squeeze squeeze
baby's fallen asleep? squeeze squeeze
baby's nowhere near? squeeze squeeze
MNing? squeeze saqueeze.

EdgarAllanPond · 11/12/2012 14:15

squeeze

toomuchchristmaspudding · 11/12/2012 14:17

Has anyone every had surgery to 'tighten' things up?

I have done lots of research into this. They do it by laser now, so there is no scarring. Not sure who does it in the UK, but if you Google 'Dr Matlock & DLV/LVR' you can get lots of info.

Goldrill · 11/12/2012 15:31

I had second baby 7 weeks ago and was worried because my episiotomy has healed but still left a great big gaping hole - so I asked my GP to have a look, and she said it was quite normal and that everything would "remodel" itself over the next few months. So even if you get a few weeks further on and it all seems healed, don't panic because apparently it will keep improving!

(she'd bloody well better be right or I am stuck with a seriously mis-shapen fanjo...)
