AIBU to think BT ABU

Right, it's my first post here so please be nice.

I'm having problems with BT. We signed up to infinity back in march. DH wanted fibre optic so he could stream films on Netflix and apple so we went with BT. They sent a engineer to install it and said it would take a week or so to settle t a consistent speed. Anyway since then we've had problems with speed.
I've called them loads of times to be fobbed off with 'have you tried switching off/on, moving the home hub etc'. All of these options I've tried each time they've asked.

Anyway, got pissed off with last Tuesday when it stopped working again and insisted they sent an engineer out. I refused to be fobbed off with their problem solving yet again. An engineer came out and found 2 faults on the line-1inside the house, 1 outside. He left saying he would fix them. Well, still having problems.

  1. I kinda think its wrong that I've been charged full price for the last 8 months when there was a fault on the line that needed an engineer to fix.
  2. I'm pissed off that I finally got them to send an engineer and still find I have a problem with it.
  3. I'm paying for things like Netflix and quite often can't make use of it unless I want to watch the 'buffering' symbol constantly. A BT technical engineer even tried to tell me that I shouldn't try to stream a film at peak times as I could expect a drop in service. Well, actually I might just want to watch a film on a Saturday night with a takeaway.
  4. Up until recently no one was home to know whether it worked properly out of peak times but given that I'm on Mat leave now (due in a week and half) I now know speed dips throughout the day and also in the early hours of the morning (joys of not being able to sleep).

BT have told me I should get speeds of up to 40 when in fact sometimes I'm lucky to get a speed of 3. This means I have problems loading a basic web page let alone try to stream a film.

AIBU in what I'm expecting from BT and also, has anyone any suggestions as to what I can do about it? Can't get through to the same person when you ring he call centres, they tell you someone will callback and never do. Ami better just waiting til my contract is up in march and going elsewhere??

Please be nice and thanks for the help

K

BT isn't 'real' fibre optic so won't get full headline speeds (not that any of them actually do anyway).

3 is rubbish if you're supposed to get close to 40. Did you get a new router? Have you tried it with an ethernet cable? I would complain vigourously to their customer services and see if you could get some money back however I wouldn't hold your breath.

I've looked on the website for their complaints procedure which says to speak to a manager in customer service. I've tried this and can't het to speak to a manager. Jst get tod they're in a meeting and will all me back but never do.

The router was new when the BT engineer came out to install it, so 8 month old now but like I said have never had decent speeds consistently.

Had someone call offering me a special price on BT vision which apparently runs through the Internet as well but would be fine as we 'have infinity' so they said. Told them where to go with that one - I'd never be able to watch a program again if it went through my Internet.

It's so frustrating, I just wanna be able to load a few web pages and stream a film or two!!
