I know there's no caffeine, but is there a problem with me doing this? it's warm, not hot.

Thanks.

In germany babies are given camomile in bottles. All of mine drink herbal and fruit teas, from about 1 year.

bigbadbarry · 09/12/2012 10:38

Try fennel too :) Tastes much nicer than camomile and my girls like it. Actually mine (aged 8 and 6 but have had it for a while) don't mind a spot of earl grey.

DrCoconut · 09/12/2012 10:38

YABU to give anyone camomile tea Xmas Grin

DameFannyGallopsBEHINDyou · 09/12/2012 10:41

Ds likes it for some strange reason. He's had it since he was about 3? And was a useful way of getting him to come down if some well meaning person had given him red juice of any kind

Yama · 09/12/2012 10:43

Dd has like Nettle and Peppermint tea since she was about that age.

tetleymel · 09/12/2012 10:45

Great, thanks all. it doesn't stain teeth then (which was my neighbour's objection)?

cozietoesie · 09/12/2012 10:53

I'd spit it out if I were they. (So be prepared.) Disgusting stuff.

DameFannyGallopsBEHINDyou · 09/12/2012 10:56

Nope. Your neighbour is a loon.

Mumsyblouse · 09/12/2012 10:56

How strange of anyone to comment on this?

Herbal teas are fine for children, I think, I also give mine a weak normal tea (almost no tea, lots of milk) a couple of times a week if it's cold in the mornings (they are 7 and 8)

quirrelquarrel · 09/12/2012 11:30

My grandmother gave us tea from when we were four, we had our own special mugs and everything, so I think herbal tea is fine!

My mum always gave me herbal tea too.....she has MILLIONS of boxes.....I had caramel flavoured during migraines to help me upchuck and end the headache, and chamomile at night.

valiumredhead · 09/12/2012 12:02

I was brought up on chammomile tea and I used to give it to ds too.

valiumredhead · 09/12/2012 12:03

I mean in bottles so very young - it's very soothing.

BertieBotts · 09/12/2012 12:07

I give my four year old normal decaf tea... so shoot me. He doesn't have it often.

Herbal teas are fine, probably better in fact than squash provided you don't add loads of sugar.

WelshMaenad · 09/12/2012 12:14

Mine gave had chamomile and fennel teas from six months! It's fine.

Wheresmycaffeinedrip · 09/12/2012 12:14

I always give my dd1 fruit and herbal teas . When she's full of cold it makes her feel a bit better and the lemon and ginger ones clear the nose. It's warm and calming. Go for it!!! :)

Idocrazythings · 09/12/2012 13:01

Paediatric dentist told me to give my 2 1/2 year old a cup after he banged his tooth and gum. Apparently it has healing properties.

quirrelquarrel · 09/12/2012 13:20

Think most things apart from "juice drinks" and fizzy drinks would be better than squash! lol

pumpkinsweetie · 09/12/2012 13:21

Go for it, just make sure it's not too hot. All my dc have drunk tea from a yr old, and so did i growing up.
My grandad made lovely tea, no one has ever made tea as lovely as himSmile

twilight3 · 09/12/2012 13:24

in many countries chamomile tea is given to babies to relief colic, and apparently it works.
It's also recommended for insomnia as well as a compress on minor grazes and eye sty (sp?).
So all in all I think it's fine and it makes for a better night's sleep...

goralka · 09/12/2012 13:26

its really good for babies and toddlers as it is calming, i started using it after visiting Italy where they use it a lot.

EntWife · 09/12/2012 13:38

Dd1 had her formula made up with chamomile tea from about 2 months. she had terrible wind and the tea worked wonders on her.

now at 2.5 she has a cup of weak milky tea most morning. I still give her chamomile if she has a tummy upset or is teething.

Interestingly (or at least to me) when we were in turkey when she was about 5 months old I went into the supermarket to buy some formula and they had a whole wall of herbal and fruit teas for newborn onwards.

VisualiseAHorse · 09/12/2012 13:43

HV said that I could give LO (7.5 months old) herbal teas instead of juice if he doesn't like juice. She said either herbal teas or water are best for babies.

My Polish friend give her toddler (just 2), these herbal granules that her mum sends from Poland.

VisualiseAHorse · 09/12/2012 13:45

But I have heard that black tea shouldn't be given to babies as it can stop iron absorption?

ConfusedPixie · 09/12/2012 13:47

YANBU, chamomile is great for soothing as already mentioned! Your neighbour doesn't have a clue what they are on about! In my local Steiner school they start having fruit and herbal teas in class at 4yo, they can have it earlier if they like too!

higgle · 09/12/2012 13:49

DS 1 was born at The Garden hospital and was fractious on his first night, so the midwives gave him a bottle of Camomile tea to calm him, he has loved it ever since.
