To want to have HRT

Even though my GP seems to be against it?
Does anyone else's GP's seem to be obstructive re this?
Ive been told they will only give it if symptoms are extreme but the current policy is to advise against. Not sure I want to go crusty and old just yet.

You're menopausal I presume?

I had a hysterectomy nearly three weeks ago and I had my ovaries removed. So far I'm on nothing and have had no symtoms such as flushes or mood swings, I'm due to be prescribed Livial in three weeks when I go back for my consultation.

I didn't realise policy was to say no unless extreme symtoms present themselves.

I bullied mine by telling them the increased cancer risks have now been shown to be negligible. There's no longer a five-year limit on HRT. I'm staying on it for ever!!

Yep, wave the evidence at him. Demand a case conference. As a previous doctor of mine said, "No woman should have to suffer for her sex."

Aerobreaking · 08/12/2012 15:29

Do you have a family history of breast cancer? laptop

Aerobreaking · 08/12/2012 15:29

misplaced question mark there but you know what I mean!

HassledHasASledge · 08/12/2012 15:32

I got HRT really easily so I'm surprised at your GP's response - I just saw a nice young woman and said "everything makes me cry, I'm always tired, I'm having 2 periods a month and did I mention everything makes me cry?". She said "sounds like a good idea" and I have to say it's been marvellous - I'm less moody, I know when I'll have a period, it's manageable and I just feel like myself again.

Go and see a different GP.

Perimenopausal with some symptom and no history of Breast Cancerm no hypertension, nada!

I think it depends on your GP. I saw my usual one for about 18 months and despite suffering soaking night sweats she refused to do anything at all (suggested I sleep with the window open.)Then she left and I changed to a newly qualified one who put me on HRT at once and I haven't looked back - I agree with garlicbaubles - make a fuss, ask for a case conference - I really wish I had!
Good luck Smile

Despite rampant insomnia, depression, hot flushes, weight gain my middle aged female gp refused point blank to give me hrt saying it was far too dangerous.

Gave me sleeping tablets instead. Not sure what I think (too exhausted
And despairing to know!)

aladdinsane · 08/12/2012 18:08

My GP recommend it to me because I am, relatively, young and he thought the risk of osteoporosis was greater than the cancer risk
