to wonder how there can be a "junior" version of scrabble

We recently stayed at a hotel where there was a box of toys for the children in the family room, and scrabble was in it.
DS is 5, so while he really got stuck into it, he needed a lot of help (though he did manage to get S-E-X without any help, unfortunately not on a triple word score). But my mum and aunt were discussing whether to get him scrabble for Christmas, and saying there was a junior version, then it occured to us that words are words, and are as difficult or easy as you make them! What is different about "junior" scrabble?

It has a two sided board and the letters don't have different values.

On one side there are words & you use your letter tiles to fill them in according to the rules (the first letter of the word has to be placed before you put any others in) and get points for finishing words.

The other side is similar to the normal scrabble board but is simpler.

Junior version the board is pre made up with words and you have to cover the whole word at a time with your tiles that you have.

here's a picture of the board half way through a game

It's very good and my ds loved it, he's 11 now but there's no reason why you couldn't still play it at that age. - infact I might even get it out this afternoon!

There is also another older version on the back of the board, but I've never played it

There has been a junior scrabble around for ever- I used to play it as a DC and it is a good starting point.

Why is the website on the link aiming it at boys? Very odd.

I didn't read the text, just wanted to show a picture of the board Smile

I had Scrabble Rebus as a kid too, really good fun (has a mixture of letters and pictograms eg an "eye" picture that you could add "H" before then "S" etc.

Here's a link as my explanation is not terribly clear!!!
