To hate the lights in Clarks shoes...

CharlyH · 07/12/2012 20:57

Please help me fellow mumsnetters...

I find it really hard to find girls shoes I like and am gutted to pay £30 for the pleasure of buying shoes I don't like!

I eventually bought a pair of Clarks in sale online without realising they had lights in them. Is there any way of turning them off? They are style: Ella Shine Fst www.clarks.co.uk/p/20349677.

Thanks for your help.

We have the lights. I always wanted them as a child so am living wildly trough ds1.

DialMforMummy · 08/12/2012 20:08

YANBU. I try to avoid styles with the lights but because it is not always possible, I ended up buying shoes with lights once. Perfectlty nice shoes, ruined by stupid lights. Angry

Strange, DS had his old "lights" shoes for months and the lights never died.

These were potty training months, too, so they went through the machine a couple of times and were absolutely fine.

His Geox shoes however which are supposed to survive nuclear blasts have fallen apart before he's had the decency to grow out of them Angry

BertieBotts · 08/12/2012 20:09

I like the lights too. You're all mean for not liking the lights.

TwoHats · 08/12/2012 20:16

I love the lights! They're great and really useful for keeping track of children on dark evenings.

I must have awful taste though as I love the squeakers too, a little girl was in them at playgroup and I was told they were to encourage children who were just starting to walk, supposedly they like the squeak so they walk more.

honeytea · 08/12/2012 20:44

Yabu the lights will make your child safer in the winter when it gets dark so early.

What is offensive about the lights?

Fairylea · 08/12/2012 20:53

I must be hormonal. I'm sitting here feeling sad for the little girl whose lights won't work tomorrow or whatever. Kids love the lights! It's only bloody lights!

On a side note, I always always wanted the shoes with the princess keys in as a child. I even remember the advert! My mum never got them for me. Evil woman. :)

CardiffUniversityNetballTeam · 08/12/2012 20:58

What is so awful about the lights?

I had Clarks Magic Step shoes with a key in them when I was little . However it never made up for the fact that I didn't have a Mr Frosty .

Fairylea · 08/12/2012 20:59

Oh I had a mr frosty. I wasn't completely deprived. Yay. :)

TheReturnOfBridezilla · 08/12/2012 21:01

I also had the princess key shoes.

But I was 13 at the time and mortified. My dad didn't have a clue. Grin

honeytea · 08/12/2012 21:01

Cardiff I didn't have magic steps or a Mr frosty :(

melrose · 08/12/2012 21:05

YANBU I loathe them, along with the mass of lurid pink, just been shopping for shoes for DD, who is 18 months and struggled to find anything nice, even the lovely patent puckle shoes had bloody lights in! Found some dark purple, light free ones in he end.

vixo · 08/12/2012 21:12

Look at 'Happy Little Soles' - really lovely shoes, and no lights or squeaks in sight! My 4 year old has a pair of boots from there for school which are gorgeous, and I'm just waiting for my 17 month olds feet to grow a bit so she can get some of the elephant shoes!

CardiffUniversityNetballTeam · 08/12/2012 21:25

Oh honeytea you poor thing. Here, have Flowers and Wine.

Picturesinthefirelight · 08/12/2012 21:30

I allowed the lights in trainers they wore at home. I never worked put how to switch them off.

It's always been a complete no no for school shoes though.

OkayHazel · 08/12/2012 22:19

Lighty up shoes are one of my favourite memories from the 90s! Don't turn them off!!!

OhDearNigel · 08/12/2012 22:30

Jeez, some people are miserable. No doubt your kids will all be getting a handknitted stocking full of clementines, tasteful wooden toys and education items.

Kids like things that adults find tacky. So what ? Nobody judges you on your child's sartorial elegance. You have enough of the rest of your life to wear dull, sensible footwear, if you can't jazz it up at 3 when can you ?

JenaiMathis · 08/12/2012 22:31

I can't believe anyone could get quite so het up about little lights in small children's shoes.

I'm intrigued. Why do people hate them?

OhDearNigel · 08/12/2012 22:32

Because they are terrified of doing anything that anyone might consider in the slightest bit "common"

Picturesinthefirelight · 08/12/2012 22:35

I hate them in shoes because they cause problems/distractions at school.

dashoflime · 08/12/2012 22:43

ODN: Two words: Nail. Head

DitaVonCheese · 08/12/2012 22:50

I hate them because (1) DD constantly kicks the back of my car seat to make them flash and then (2) every few minutes I think I'm being pulled over due to flashing lights behind me. My nerves are shot to shit, I tell you!

MsVestibule · 08/12/2012 22:50

Can I just check that we're talking about lights in small people's shoes here? Not a hole in the heel specially made for cocaine trafficking?

Startail · 08/12/2012 22:51

I want trainers with lights, they are the only kids shoes that stop at 2's and I want 4's

They're great in dark car parks and they are fun.

So are eyelashes on cars, that some one was moaning about on another thread.

It's cold and wet and misserable and I've got to tidy my house, I need some sillyness.

BertieBotts · 08/12/2012 22:53

They make you think you're being pulled over and cause distractions in school?
