To be annoyed at Dara O'Briain stealing my MN name?

Ok, I know I am really, but every time I see this blasted DVD I get irrationally annoyed. I've had this bad boy for two years and now it looks like I am committing comedy theft.

Anyone else care to share their name-theft anxiety?

For years I called Pot Noodles "Not Poodles", then a while back they launched a whole bloody ad campaign about just that & didn't pay me a penny for MY bout of comedy genius. Swines.

Yup! I've been using a username on twitter and other forums since 2000. That name has recently been adopted by a particular "fandom" - think "Beliebers" but not quite so teeny bopper.

It drives me irrationally bonkers, especially as some of them have tweeted me to tell me I shouldn't be using the name as I'm not a fan.

Maybe I should auction it... might be worth a few bob.

I saw Dara's 'Craic Dealer' tour a few weeks ago, and the highlight by far was during the interval. Dara had done a bit about how Tesco wouldn't stock his DVD as it 'promoted drug use' and we all guffawed (as you do). During the interval, a young couple behind me with terribly naice accents had the following conversation:

Girl: He's good, isn't he? Very funny.
Boy: Yes. I didn't really get the craic dealer bit though. I mean, what is 'craic'?
Girl: I think....Yes. It's an Irish dance. Like a ceilidh, but Irish.
Boy: Oh! Oh. Then it doesn't make sense.
Girl: No. It doesn't really. He's not as clever as he thinks he is.

I had to sit on Irish DH to prevent him pointing and laughing.

I know none of you will believe me but, years ago, when I was a slip of a girl, Coke launched Diet Coke. I made a comment that they should rename normal Coke "Fat Coke"

Now, I am aware that the Coca Cola Co. are unlikely to rebrand in this way but, every other bugger on the planet calls it Fat Coke!!!

I should be proud. I am not. I am irrationally Xmas Angry. I hear someone say it and I want to scream "that's my idea!" Xmas Angry. "Get your own!!!" Xmas Angry Xmas Angry Xmas Angry

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, you know. Grin

GrimmaTheNome · 06/12/2012 13:07

oh, and I was thinking, never come across a poster called ScienceClub, odd sort of name...

TheCraicDealer · 06/12/2012 13:07

Haaa! My DP is English, so I am aware of trying to explain what "craic" . It's a more complicated concept that you first think.

I think someone said his wife is a MN'er. I hope she's happy with herself.

Fat coke is much better than just "Coke", trudolph. Maybe aul Saatchi should give you a ring?

Sorry Rudolph but my dad's been calling it fat coke since I was little and I'm old!

tethersjinglebellend · 06/12/2012 13:21

A few months ago there was a poster called tethersendtoo Confused

trudolphtherednosedreindeer · 06/12/2012 13:40

I am willing to concede that I may not be the only person to think of it but it doesn'stop me from screaming inside. That's why it's irrational anger.

Robot, your dad's a genius Xmas Wink

RobotLover68 · 06/12/2012 13:58
Xmas Grin

Not quite sure when it changed to "full fat coke" though which I've noticed recently - it's fat coke cos it makes you "ahem" fat - I'm pretty sure it doesn't have any fat in it

ethelb · 06/12/2012 14:08

so what is craic?

PortBlackSandaClaus · 06/12/2012 14:11

We've always called the larger sausages with 'erbs in and stuff 'poshages' in our house. That bloke from Blur now markets them as that from his funny farmstead...Xmas Angry

TheCraicDealer · 06/12/2012 14:12

From the Urban Dictionary-

" Craic
Irish word for fun/enjoyment that has been brought into the English language. usu. when mixed with alcohol and/or music.
'Bhi craic agus ceol againn' : We had fun and music.
Fun doesn't really cut it though. General banter, good times had by all.
Also, a person who is good fun/great company."
