Yanbu, but as others have said - it's not easy and often requires a bit of time.

I'm happy to buy EU too.

Just this week I wanted to buy a piece of software, I easily found 3 American versions but it was really hard to find the UK version which seems to actually be superior and the team in Leeds are amazing.

The money I paid won't change the world but it's 100 quid for a small UK business and I'm proud to support it.

nope I exercise my choices and buy products I want
irrespective of country of origin
I mean I won't forgo my champagne

Yanbu.
It would boost the economy if you just buy British made. I used to buy loads of British labelled foods from Tesco when we lived in the Uk. We now live in Oz, and nearly everything that is me in Oz is labelled as such. The Australan made/grown is always highlighted, and a lot of people will only buy Aussie made/grown, as its supporting the economy. The only problem is, that a lot of Aussie made products are more expensive, as they have to pay the workers bigger wages for a high standard of living.

I'm not entirely sure where you are coming from here. The Chinese manufacturing industry is extremely skilful, in a lot of fields much more so that the British, and there are a lot of specialist products you just wouldn't be able to buy British made as it was invented in and can only be made in Asia. So whilst there may be other reasons to buy British - reducing carbon footprint being one - product quality really isn't one.

I'd love to buy British more, and I do when it comes to food, but for everything else I tend to go for whatever I can afford. If I save a tenner by not buying British, then so be it. Sometimes principles are a luxury that many can't afford to have!

I live in Australia and only buy home produced fresh foods. This means buying seasonally, so grapes are just kicking in. As are cherries, nectarines, mangoes and peaches. Pears and apple are year round. All fresh food is labelled by origin, so it's easy to support Australia.

< I stretch a point by sometimes buying NZ: they're kind enough to extend PR status to all Aussies, so it's the least I can do.Smile

I wonder how many of you are posting on here using an iphone made in China?

MissCellania · 06/12/2012 10:12

lovelyladuree · 06/12/2012 10:42

This English woman makes a good living selling plastic Chinese tat. Don't knock it.

You should check out www.makeitbritish.co.uk if you want to find products made in Britain. There is a lot more made here than you'd think.

They have some very convincing reasons as to why you should buy British-made makeitbritish.co.uk/gifts/reasons-to-buy-gifts-made-in-britain-this-christmas/

Fakebook · 11/12/2012 22:02

Can I just say, stuff made in China isn't cheap crap anymore? They make good quality products now. Welcome to 2012, seems like you're stuck in 1972.

Another thing that has pissed me off is that the iPhone doesn't capitalise the C in china. Talk about arseholey. Apple get all their stuff manufactured over there due to cheap labour and they still can't programme their products to capitalise the C in the name.
