Having a chat with my sister earlier about her works do that I am invited to. It is James Bond themed and she said we should drink martinis when we are getting ready.

She has never had one and when I told that it was basically gin with a teeny bit of vermouth in it, she was appalled. They are gopping! Vodka martinis are barely any better.

Does anyone actually like them?

I say VerMooth

I might be common. I'm not sure.

Proudnscaryvirginmary · 05/12/2012 22:48

OMG I LOVE martinis, are you insania?

Dirty/vodka since you ask

I'm one of those rare people who love the taste of 'raw' alcohol, I don't like mixers messing it thank you very much

My palate is sadly too unsophisticated to enjoy a proper martini, but my favourite drink ever is the delectable French Martini which is best made with Chambord. Yum.

Bogeyface · 05/12/2012 22:48

Re the stirring.

I read an article years ago that said that martini officianados insist that a martini should be gently agitated in the glass with a glass rod, as anything more than that "bruises" the gin. Oh and they add the Vermouth with a eye dropper in order to get the tiniest amount in.

FFS......Hmm

You NEVER have ice a martini Shock Or shake it Shock

My friend made me one a few weeks ago that had anchovy inside the olive. Was filthily delicious.

A gibson (with a pickled onion) is too sharp for me but DP loves it.

With a twist makes a refreshing summer martini.

SP my darling, you are a minger Grin

BunnyLebowski · 05/12/2012 22:49

Ver-mooth.

Sans doute.

Seabright · 05/12/2012 22:51

Again, VER-mooth. Am getting a bit partial to a dirty martini.

First mouthful - cough, blink, OMG
Second mouthful - getting better
Third mouthful - mix me another. Mix it fast.

Bogeyface · 05/12/2012 22:53

Thats nice to know, I have always said verMOOTH but I also wondered if I was common :o

Ver (to rhyme with fur) MOOTH (to rhyme with truth)

Apparantly

SPsFanjoIsSantasLittleHoHoHo · 05/12/2012 22:56

bunny don't knock it til you have tried it! We used to drink it before out so we didn't need to spend as we would be near enough pissed Grin

BunnyLebowski · 05/12/2012 22:58

I hear ya SP.

I used to drink Buckfast straight from the bottle Shock

Or laser cider Blush

trixymalixy · 05/12/2012 22:59

YANBU, I was so disappointed when I tried one for the first time.

French martinis on the other hand ate my favourite.

catgirl1976geesealaying · 05/12/2012 23:00

Bogeyface · 05/12/2012 23:00

A travesty and NOT a martini

shrimponastick · 05/12/2012 23:07

Bogeyface · 05/12/2012 23:08

The most revolting drink experience in my life - bar none, and I'm including accidentally swigging off milk - was picking up a 'gin and tonic' some idiot me had absent mindedly made at a party by diluting the gin base with more gin instead of lovely fizzy bitter tonic.

Bleugh.

It was utterly foul. I can't imagine I'd like martinis and now I'm never really likely to try them! Which is a shame as before this thread I'd no idea what was in them and thought they looked quite pretty. Sad

Bogeyface · 05/12/2012 23:09

So, I shouldnt go "BLEURGGGH" after the first sip and chuck some tonic it? I should stick with it?

OP posts:
Bogeyface · 05/12/2012 23:10

LRD that pretty much described my experience with gin!

BunnyLebowski · 05/12/2012 23:10

shrimp Brown's can be great but it depends on the bartender. I hate this kinda inconsistency Angry

Maven do brilliant but petite martinis. It's a cool prohibition style cocktail bar with no sign outside. Near the corn exchange!

There's a bar called Verve next to Mojos. A short barman called Chris makes great martinis and gives me free gin when the balance is off Grin

Also, the bar in Black House is great. Lots of fab martini-makers!

SPsFanjoIsSantasLittleHoHoHo · 05/12/2012 23:10

bogey throw some lager and some vodka in. Delicious!

Bogeyface · 05/12/2012 23:12

SP can i come to your Xmas party please? :o

OP posts:
LRDtheFeministDude · 05/12/2012 23:13

Glad it's not just me bogey.

Bleeeee.

SPsFanjoIsSantasLittleHoHoHo · 05/12/2012 23:19

Yes you may! The best thing about a lagvodtini is you don't need to make a lot of it as it does its job pretty quickly Grin

I drink all sorts of drinks mixed. Its what happens when you decide to have a little party then start running out. Improvisation at its best Grin
