and it is too hot and of course worse when you get out. surely, particularly as the dc's arent babies, they are all teens, it is more realistic to ahve coats on in the car and the heating turned down,
what do you do ?

You shouldn't wear thick and/or padded coats when in the car as your seat belt doesn't fit as well and is therefore less efficient, especially important for babies and children. It is less safe to be wearing a thick coat.

Instead - for passengers. Remove coat, put belt on, and if required you can always use coat or a blanket.

Me/ I remove my coat for driving and use the heater.

No coat, heating on until car is warm then turned down or off.

If it's longer than a 10 min drive then I whack the heating right up. I can't relax when I'm all trussed up in a coat.

I blast the hot air right on me.

I drive in my coat if it's cold as I'm going somewhere that usually involves getting out of the car at some point and I don't mess about taking coats on and off! I have a little heat on, not lots.

Dh is a heater freak, makes me want to vomit like that night he picked me up from the pub with the heaters blasting and I was sick in my bag

For any journey longer than 20 minutes I have my side of the heating turned up high, blowing on my feet, my coat on and DH's coat over my lap. He has a t-shirt on and his heating turned down low, blowing on his face.
