To wish that baby activities weren't all scheduled around nap time?

I have 6 month old twins who (for now, touch wood) are good sleepers and good nappers - when they were 4 months I took the advice of Dr Weissbluth, SWMNBN and numerous other baby sleep gurus and started putting them down for naps in their cot at 9 and 1 (actually 12.30 - on a good day they make it to about 12.45) and they have a catnap at about 4. All well and good but all but one of the local children's centres has baby activities on at 1 till 3. AIBU to think that they might be more useful if they weren't on during prime baby nap time?

I understand that you have your routine but they cant judge everybodies nap time some babies sleep in the morning some in the afternoon but you just need to either keep them up and go or let them nap and not go, it is always somebodies nap time at some point during the day,

I feel your pain. I had the same problem with my twins but eventually they dropped to only needing one sleep per day which I was able to shift to afternoon. I was then free to attend the mother and toddler groups one or two mornings per week. It was great when that happened.

Grin and bear it, and you'll get there. In fact some days you will look longingly back at the days when you were guaranteed 2 sleeps and an hour to yourself;-)

Yabu. At 6mo my dd had four 40min naps per day, a couple of hours apart. She didn't read the book you did so slept when she was tired Grin

My twins napped well, but only in the buggy, so I aimed for groups about 40 min walk away. Most of the groups here are in the morning, but I loved the one afternoon one - walk babies to church hall, leave babies sleeping for a while in a corner, drink tea and eat cake.

Could you take them in a buggy for a couple of afternoons? And there must be morning activities somewhere near you?

Will they sleep in the car? Can you take them to something and then let them snooze in the car on the way home? Or go early and let them sleep beforehand in the car and have half an hour with a book before you wake them to go into the group?

Much better to have kids who are a bit flexible IME.
