when mine were small I could get away with spending a little and making it look big, now an x box game is £40 and looks tiny

think I'll be spending £250 each, which I've saved all year for, have 2 kids

No more than £100 each in total. Never have spent more than this on them.

I am lucky in that I just have one child, so don't have to think of making sure the spending is equal or whatever. I am also fortunate in that I can afford to spend a significant amount. But it is on useful stuff, I am buying her an old banger this year (joint birthday and xmas present as she is 17 next week).

I spent very little on her when she was small - twenty quid or something - because that's all I could afford.

The most important thing is that we are happy and spend the precious christmas holidays together because now she is older and I work away we are like ships that pass in the night most of the year.

And the second most important thing is buying the daft tat for the stocking - I love that.

Happy 18th birthday to your dd tsc.

I am having kittens at the thought of my baby being 17. Christ!

Last year it was about £1200 each, this year it is more like £500 each.

DS1 got an iMac last year so we spent the same on DS2.

Ds wants a 32" TV for his bedroom, he wants one that costs over £300, He may one that is about £190-200. He also has box sets for various things he likes and was wondering whether to get him some new bedroom furniture (we have just moved) that he can put up over the school hols!

Like someone up thread said, everything is relative, Ds is an only child, only grand/great-grandchild, only nephew. We spend a lot between us but try to make it a mix between practical and not.

His current TV will be put in the kitchen where we wanted one anyway. ill not longer be 'his' to do what he wants with.
