To ask DP to take the day off to care for DS

Tricky one this one, DS and I are both ill, high temp, fever, very swollen throat, I am also being sick
Which really really hurts. Today I should be at work and DS at nursery, ive been off a week with unrelated illness and cared for DS while he was ill, lucky I'm
Off really.

Anyway today I am literally crying with pain, my throat is swollen to the point I can't swallow easily and it hurts, I'm shaking because of fever and so very tired.

DS will be up soon and he's a boisterous two year old who is REALLY hard work.

WIBU to ask DP to come home to care for DS so I can get myself sorted? Fwiw DS is two and has had lots of bugs etc but DP has never taken the time off.

No YA definitely NBU. Glad to hear he's on his way home, hope you feel better soon.

TheDoctrineOfSnatch · 03/12/2012 07:55

Santa, does DP typically do the second day of any "two day" illness that DS has, or does he sometimes come home by lunchtime on day 1 so you can work from home/go in to the office in the afternoon?

Sirzy · 03/12/2012 07:56

Some odd comments here! Being too ill to look after an ill toddler and too ill to pick up a phone are very different!

With regards to the comments about how ill can a boistous toddler be - before now DS has been on oxygen and ended up getting knotted in the pipes because he was moving around so much. Toddlers don't always react in the same way as adults to illness!

Proudnscaryvirginmary · 03/12/2012 08:00

Yes it did sound like that, Santa, but really you shouldn't need to ask when you feel this rough! Hope you feel better soon mate x

CailinDana · 03/12/2012 08:01

YANBU at all. It bugs the hell out of me the way mothers especially seem to have this strange attitude to illness - as if needing a day to recuperate is a failing somehow and your head has to be falling off in order to warrant it. There is no point in exhausting yourself when you're clearly not well enough to manage. I would definitely expect my DH to stay at home if I were in your position.

blackeyedsusan · 03/12/2012 08:05

sore throat that bad is grim... I could not talk, sallow, eat, drink without paracetamol and ibuprofen... then a hefty dose of antibiotics...

could mn though Smile

comedycentral · 03/12/2012 08:17

Hey OP, glad your OH is coming to help. You can get off to bed for some much needed snooze!

As for the nasty bitches on this thread, wind your necks in. Just nasty mumsnet bullies with nothing better to do than kick people when they are down.

comedycentral · 03/12/2012 08:18

I have mn when ill too....and in labour. Like the OP said, it didn't reach my fingers.

mrskeithrichards · 03/12/2012 08:22

Fakebook you sound bitchy and like a bit of a cow, not witty or sharp. Just in case you were going for the witty approach, you're failing.

mercibucket · 03/12/2012 08:39

Can someone start a new thread please - how ill I was and I still mumsnetted
I've mumsnetted in labour, with pneumonia and with puking bugs (not all at the same time)
Who can top that?

Op, go to the GP today if your dh is coming home. Sounds like you might need abs

SantasComingFace · 03/12/2012 08:47

Thanks all, DP has called the GP, there are nasty blister type things on my throat, appointment at 19.10! Not sure I can wait that long so wondering if I can go to the walk in centre.

Thanks for all the helpful replies!

Sirzy · 03/12/2012 08:52

i would go to the walk in centre, you may have to sit and wait for a while but at least you can get antibiotics sooner.

Pilgit · 03/12/2012 09:07

My DD doesn't 'do' ill. Was convinced once there was something wrong despite her bouncing off the walls (it was the way she'd suddenly stop, sit down for a couple of minutes and then carry on that gave it away)- took her to the docs and the receptionists treated me like a fussing mother - she had ear, throat and chest infections and ended up on ab's for 3 weeks. Another time went with a high temp (half a degree of hospitalisation) and a sore throat. by this stage she could talk and the doc looked in her throat and said that must really hurt - all she did was shrug and go 'it's alright'. So small children bouncing around when ill - yep, does happen. Hope you feel better soon OP and you get some A grade pampering!

SantasComingFace · 03/12/2012 09:16

Yup on my way there now sirzy.

Pilgit, seems we are not alone.

Mrskeithrichards, you seem to be getting a bit hysterical there. Do calm down. I wasn't trying to be witty or bitchy. It's my opinion. If I was shivering and full of fever, the last thing on my mind would be asking MN what they think of the situation.

TeeElfOnTeeShelf · 03/12/2012 09:24

I once MNetted with my head falling off.

Xmas Grin
comedycentral · 03/12/2012 09:31

That must have hurt tee.

TeeElfOnTeeShelf · 03/12/2012 09:38

Well, I posted about it and a lovely MNetter sent me a new head through the Xmas appeal and I'm all better now.

SantasComingFace · 03/12/2012 13:32

Good to hear you are ok now tee, head falling off must sting a bit!

Just got back from walk in centre, I have, like a few suggested tonsillitis, the doctor has given me ten days anti-biotics, and told me to take ibruprofen and parracetamol.

I got my prescription from asda, they are selling 'pigs in blanket' flavoured pom bears. (there were in the doorway near the pharmacy I wasn't shopping)

Now i'm finally going to sleep!'
