......FFS. I knew I had a backlog. DH has "a" T-shirt that he insists on wearing as a cue for me to do some ironing...lol... He's a SAHD so does everything else...but the ironing....WIBU to tell him I've had a couple of glasses of wine so he can stick the ironing up his arse???

DameMargot, I'll accept it's housework if I can list filing my nails as housework.

DameMargotFountain · 02/12/2012 09:36

IWipe Grin

exactly! it's got nothing to do with keeping anyone clean and healthy

it's superficial and the most pointless task you can expect AN OtherAdult to do for you.

SchnitzelVonKrumm · 02/12/2012 09:41

We never iron, we all look smart and it hasn't killed us.

puds11 · 02/12/2012 09:43

Ironing is a waste of time in my opinion. However, you should be helping with the chores.

FivesAndNorks · 02/12/2012 09:43

does the t shirt actually have the line on it "The ironing needs doing"
Or is it just the absolute last T shirt he'd choose to wear?
But yes, if ironing is your job and you two feel it's necessary, then you should have dnoe it.
DH and I wear unironed clothes all the time. We function (just).

SirBoobAlot · 02/12/2012 09:45

Ironing is pointless. But - him wearing the t-shirt is rather passive aggressive, and you sitting on your bum not contributing towards the household work is also rather rude.

I'm guessing he's wearing the last t shirt in the pile (my DH would call it his "washing the car T shirt")
ie a bit small, a bit faded, a bit ragged. But ironed.

FivesAndNorks · 02/12/2012 09:51

I can't believe I have just told a woman she should be ironing her husband's clothes.
Oh no, what is happening to me?!

Pochemuchka · 02/12/2012 09:55

Time to get a 'do it yourself' t-shirt :)

Applicable in so many situations!

Time to ditch the iron and hang clothes up instead. I never iron.

Felicitywascold · 02/12/2012 10:00

So much depends on nuance here.

Is DH joking or not?

Startail · 02/12/2012 10:10

I can't remember where the iron isSmile

BrianCoxIsAChristmasPud · 02/12/2012 10:38

I don't have a partner and also don't iron very often.

This is the 4th thread I have read on hear this morning that makes me happy to be single.

I blame Mumsnet and similar for my dying sad and lonely being eaten by dogs when I'm 98 (with no wrinkles or stress lines) Wink

As an outsider looking in - OP, do the ironing/don't do the ironing but somebody has to at some point. I don't think H is being unreasonable, other than to point out it needs doing. That would get my back up if I had anything pointed out to me but I am an arsey cowbag

LauriesFairyonthetreeeatsCake · 02/12/2012 10:40

funny t shirt

but I never iron - who can be arsed when there's tea and cake in the world? Hmm

BrianCoxIsAChristmasPud · 02/12/2012 10:41

I have two strongly held beliefs...

  1. people with spotless cars have too much time on their hands

  2. people without an ironing pile are abnormal

SoupDragon · 02/12/2012 12:45

But what if you don't have an ironing pile because you don't iron?

tiredemma · 02/12/2012 12:48

I iron my own clothes as and when needed- ill do the same for the boys.

Dp has his own hands - he irons his owns clothes.

HECTheHallsWithRowsAndFolly · 02/12/2012 12:49

How many threads have we had from a woman pissed off that she does EVERYTHING around the house and the one thing she asks her husband to do - he never does?

And the response is that he's ...

mercibucket · 02/12/2012 12:58

Why does your dh do all the housework?
What do you own that really needs ironing?

We haven't ironed anything for years. Dh has to iron work shirts and trousers. Most of my work stuff doesn't need ironing. The kids stuff doesn't need ironing. Therefore, dh is the only one who does any ironing.

I always saw ironing as like blowdrying your hair, or manicuring your nails. If you can be arsed, great, do it, but don't expect someone else to do it for you

cece · 02/12/2012 12:58

I never iron.

Just don't buy things that need ironing. Also shake and fold well and it is not necessary.

No ironing pile in this house, all washed, dried, folded and put away. That takes enough time as it is! How on earth does anyone have time to iron?!

saladcreamwitheverything · 06/01/2013 04:51

I forgot I started this thread! Glad most folk got the tongue in cheek element to the post! You all be pleased to know (I'm sure) that the ironing pile got conquered, the "ironing" shirt got ironed (and ironed again) but I have now adopted the short cut technique of ironing t-shirt sleeves on one side only, rather than both....( but don't tell DH...shhhh).
