AIBU to expect a thank you?

Today I have been out and about with DS. On a few occasions there has not been space for someone coming the other way to walk past, if I am walking towards them with the pram. So I have stopped, and waited for them to pass, even if I got there first, so they don't have to wait. No one has said thanks, or even made eye contact with me. AIBU, or next time should I just plow on regardless and make them wait for me?

No, annoyingly, it is not their fault that the person before them is an arsehole. YANBU to get annoyed. I find a passive aggressive, cheery THANK YOU, helps my sanity.

snigger · 30/11/2012 15:34

[bshock]

Throw haggis at them.

YANBU

Oh this drives me mad. I love to slip in a snide 'You're welcome' with eye contact and a smile as they walk past.

Grillamo · 30/11/2012 15:54

No way, you are never unreasonable to expect people to be polite!

This really winds me up too! I do what mrsterry does, It really embarrases people who should know better.

Gillyweed001 · 30/11/2012 16:03

Thanks, wasn't sure if I was expecting too much! I always say please or thank you to other people, its annoying when the same courtesy isn't returned. If I'm feeling brave, I'll start with the sarcastic replies!

Now that DS is vocal he does a tremendous falsely sincere 'thank you you're welcome'

Works a treat

TakeMyEyesButNotTheGoat · 30/11/2012 16:09

I hate that and also when you hold a door open for someone. They walk straight past, no eye contact and no thank you, leaving you standing there holding the door.

I ALWAYS shout back a sarcastic thank you Smile

BackforGood · 30/11/2012 16:13

Same as when you are driving, and don't get a quick wave of thanks when letting someone through. Really, irrationally winds me up.
If there's any chance of them hearing, I saw "You're welcome" or "That's alright" , as if I'd heard them saying thanks.

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 30/11/2012 16:15

YANBU I hate rudeness! How hard is it to just smile and say thank you?!

Gillyweed001 · 30/11/2012 19:52

Exactly!! Really gets on my nerves.

Psh I hate this. The door thing really bugs me, I always open the door for people and let people go before me, rarely ever get thanked. Sooo self entitled. Weren't they taught manners??

ChippingInLovesAutumn · 30/11/2012 19:56

As the day goes on my muttering of 'You're welcome' Hmm rises to quite a loud You.Are.WelcomeAngry

MummytoKatie · 30/11/2012 22:35

How old is your ds? It's a short term problem as dd is 2.8 and will (loudly) say:-

Dd: that man didn't say thank you
Me: ssssh sweetie
Dd: but you said you have to say thank you
Me: yes but nevermind
Dd: but you said it's really rude to not say thank you
Me: yes dear
Dd: so is that man really rude
Me : realises that the man is now out of earshot yes he is

Gillyweed001 · 30/11/2012 22:45

DS is 2 months old, so plenty of time for him to embarrass people with no manners Smile Smile
