To not sponsor someone doing Movember...

IsItMyArseOrMyElbow · 30/11/2012 10:41

when they didn't sponsor me doing a sponsored walk a couple of months ago?

It's not like I've not supported their charity at all, as I have sponsored a family member doing it, BUT I feel like saying a) F Off you didn't sponsor me and b) I actually did 10K on arthritic hips and knees while you've just not had a shave for a few weeks!

Yes but have you ever had to live/kiss someone doing Movember it's embarrassing with their ridiculous 'tash and scratchy Grin

Although I too might not want to sponsor someone who didn't sponsor me.

IsItMyArseOrMyElbow · 30/11/2012 10:51

Maybe we should be sponsoring the women who have to live with the facial hair? I'll donate a bar of chocolate and a glass of wine!

Unfortunately my husband can't take part as he's unable to grow facial hair.

Someone should sponsor me for not shaving my legs.

WilsonFrickett · 30/11/2012 11:49

Say you'll sponsor him if he'll sponsor you in my new event: Fannuary. Yes ladies, for the month of January, don't trim, shave or wax yer Mary - let it go hairy.

sue52 · 30/11/2012 11:51

I like your thinking WilsonFrickett.

DeWe · 30/11/2012 12:25

Cheshire so what you're saying is that their partners should be sponsored instead? Wink

OutragedAtThePriceOfFreddos · 30/11/2012 12:29

Yanbu.

I am LOVING the Fannuary idea!

SpoonyFuckersWife · 30/11/2012 12:31

Wilson, that idea of fanuary been about for a while, sorry. I'm so glad it's the end of November and my DPs 'orrible 70s porn star look is coming to an end!

ISeeThreadPeople · 30/11/2012 12:32

Fannuary would be fun on FB. The pictures of insipid little 'taches have about killed me this month. My Aunty Ann's snatch updated daily would be the final straw.

VoiceofUnreason · 30/11/2012 12:35

YANBU. No one asked me this year but I was asked last year. I give money to charity as it is so I will only sponsor someone who is doing something:
a) for a charity I 'approve' of but don't already support on a monthly basis
b) that involves some form of serious effort.

Growing a moustache doesn't fall into the latter category, even if the cause is valid.

Cortana · 30/11/2012 12:36

YANBU. 10k is an achievement, well done you! Thanks

Growing a tash is fun, for a good cause, but you shouldn't feel you have to sponsor anyone. Perhaps if you just let them know you have supported their cause although not directly through them?

Also I am up for Fannuary. Head hair is now pink and I am thinking about growing in the thatch and dying to match.

Yeah, but someone's going to ask for proof at the beginning and end of the month.

LAlady · 30/11/2012 12:41

Wilson, join the other 9,000 odd people on the FB Fanuary group.

Daisypod · 30/11/2012 14:21

Now this lady deserves sponsorship for her amazing Movember effort, sorry for the DM link!

samandi · 30/11/2012 15:16

Moustaches (sp?) on their own are awful. I'd rather sponsor someone doing a run or something.

EIizaDay · 30/11/2012 15:22

It's got the same connotations for me as red nose day has I'm afraid.

Trills · 30/11/2012 15:24

You are being unreasonable to choose your charity donations based on whether someone sponsored you for another event.

There are many good reasons for not donating to a particular charity, but "they didn't sponsor me" is not one of them.

ChestnutsRoastingonaWitchesTit · 30/11/2012 15:35

Isn't doing something for chariddy supposed to take a bit of effort?

The way I see it men have just not bothered to shave for a month.

EldritchCleavage · 30/11/2012 15:37

I'm feeling a bit sad reading people being dismissive about Movember on this thread: my father has prostate cancer. It's the cause that matters, not the amount you 'suffer' while raising the money.

Trills · 30/11/2012 15:39

If you don't bother to shave you don't get a moustache, you get a beard.

Walking around looking ridiculous (which most men do with a moustache as they have not been in fashion for 30 years) counts as "doing something difficult" in my book.

It's not so bad this year because lots of people are doing it, so if I see someone with an ill-advised moustache I assume they are doing it for charity. 2 or 3 years ago it was much harder to walk around with a moustache on your face because people would assume that you thought it looked good.

WilsonFrickett · 30/11/2012 16:02

Aw, have 9,000 people beaten me to it? [bsad]

HoobleDooble · 30/11/2012 18:03

EIiza we could always split the difference and start Red Nosehair day!

HoobleDooble · 30/11/2012 18:06

Trills I do believe the OP did mention that she actually is already giving to the charity by sponsoring a family member? So it's not like she's dismissing the cause altogether.

Exactly this

MadameCastafiore · 30/11/2012 18:25

YANBU to not sponsor them as they didn't sponsor you but as for 'just' growing a tache - it is not a just or not as DH keeps telling me - he is at present shaving his off after spending the whole month moaning about how irritating it is, how itchy, how much it makes him look like a complete twat and how I won't go near him! So it is harder work than you would expect having to put up with it for a whole month (oh god - with the shaving off of it I suppose he expects normal marital relations to resume tonight - better get the wine out!)
