YANBU. The first rule of all shops that sell pregnancy tests should be that you don't talk about pregnancy tests when they're going through the till, unless the customer has expressly asked for advice.

Terrywoganstrousers · 30/11/2012 09:58

YANBU.
When I bought my last pg test (ooh, about 30 weeks agoGrin) I was Shock to be asked loudly by the pharmacy assistant if I wanted it to be positive or not!!!!

suebfg · 30/11/2012 09:59

They were stood at the back of the shop and asked me from there what I wanted. I had to say that I didn't want to shout out what I wanted. So she knew I was trying to be discrete.

Shock was it the same assistant? Thats totally out of order, asking if you wanted it to be positive. Shock

do you want it to be positive?

Terrywoganstrousers · 30/11/2012 10:04

Mighttinge,I did want it to be positive ( and it was) but it's hardly the point! None of her beeswax IMO, crossing a line.

Terrywoganstrousers · 30/11/2012 10:05

Ah sorry, slightly misread your post

Fakebook · 30/11/2012 10:06

That's rude. Why couldn't you just pick up one and take it to the till? Do shop assistants still ask people what they want? Not where I live Confused

ArkadyRose · 30/11/2012 10:12

This is why I buy tests from supermarkets or Boots and use the self-checkout - far less risk of some nosy git shouting it out to all and sundry or offering their opinions on the matter.

MightTinge · 30/11/2012 10:20

Oh I got confused by the OP quoting someone else then, I thought it happened to the OP twice!!

But yes, any assistant asking someone what they wanted to result to be is very out of line.

FeckOffCup · 30/11/2012 10:21

Buy them in poundland, the cashiers are too busy trying to flog you piles of chocolate at the checkout to notice what's in your basket.

FivesAndNorks · 30/11/2012 10:25

Surely pharmacists should know better than this. Most people are unlikely o want to shout out what they want!

suebfg · 30/11/2012 10:27

It was a proper pharmacy with everything behind the counter you see.

YANBU.

Hope you get the result you want. Thanks

PurpleCrutches · 30/11/2012 13:15

YANBU.

They don't just limit it to pregnancy tests. The last time I bought pile cream the pharmacist started trying to quiz me about whether I wanted cream or ointment, I wanted to die.

Cortana · 30/11/2012 13:17

I used to buy piles cream with tightening action for under my eyes Purple, last time I was in Savers it didn't scan so she waved it around for the other cashier to see it to get the price. Blush

Pray tell me more, does this work! :Hopes:

AboutThyme · 30/11/2012 13:23

Does that really work Cortana? I thought it was one of those mystical urban legends? Grin

AboutThyme · 30/11/2012 13:23

x post saintly

PurpleCrutches · 30/11/2012 13:26

I too thought that was a myth

Cortana · 30/11/2012 13:29

They don't do it in the uk anymore. Sad My friend gave me some and it was amazing. Bought a few more and then couldn't get it. She orders hers from America now, too expensive for me. Apparently they took the ingredient out.

The one without the tightening is great for a layer under foundation though. You know those expensive primer creams that soothe your skin to a nice even tone and cover crows feet and wrinkles? Any old piles cream will do that for a fraction of the price.

Cortana · 30/11/2012 13:30

Gosh I'm such a cheapskate Blush.

CailinDana · 30/11/2012 13:31

A few years ago a pharmacist asked "would it be good news?" when I bought a test. I was too gobsmacked to answer but I often thought I should go back and tell him what a stupid thing that was to ask in front of everyone in the middle of shop. What if I'd broken down sobbing and said I'd been raped or something? Idiot. I certainly never went back there again.

I think in any situation a cashier commenting on what you're buying (unless it's to just say something like "Oh that's a good wine") is incredibly rude.
