To buy one present between twins?

I'm struggling to think of decent presents with DS having had so many parties recently and we have one coming up for twins (a boy and a girl). I would like to get them something decent and usually have a budget for around £10. I've seen a magazine subscription (Okido) which looks really good and is £20 for the year (5 issues I think). You can get a voucher thing for it, so they could order it themselves and have it delivered to their address.

WIBU to give them a joint present like this? I would give separate cards of course.

Yes, one present each. Matching trucks if you have too, but one each. Even two books is better! Magazine no. It will get you talked about in all the wrong ways....

LOL LaCiccolina, have you had that too- I used to say to buy exactly the same thing, we could sometimes get away with different colours, but never ever a magazine between twins, its the recipe for disaster (and the mum having to buy another subscription so they dont have to share..)

I'm a twin.
Definitely separate presents.

And Yes to the poster that got called twin or twinny rather than bothering to learn our names.

My BIL was one of boy twins born on Christmas Day. Each year people bought them one present - a combined Christmas/birthday gift to share!

Journey · 29/11/2012 17:13

Since twins appear to want separate presents from people attending their parties then I presume the parents hold two parties. One for each of their twins. If they can't share a present then I presume they can't share a party!

Do these twins also bring two presents when they attend a party together?

Yes

And sharing a party is slightly different - friends sometimes share parties, but you wouldn't expect to take one present to share between two friends co-hosting a party.

SpringHeeledJack · 29/11/2012 17:20

yes, they do, Journey

the worst is when twins attend twin friend parties

then you have to buy four presents

I did think of Lego, but there's the whole controversy over the new 'girly' range. I did see some nice boxes of Lego in Costco, but they are pink and blue. Some people might take exception to the girl getting the pink one, or not...

Sorry to high jack OP but as there are many Moms of twins here do you min of I quickly ask a question...

We have a set of nearly 4 year old twin boys in the family, they live in another country and rarely see them, but this year we'll see them for Christmas. Apparently they like superheroes, we were thinking of buying them both a spiderman figure, one with a car and one with a motorbike. That way they are essentially the same but still different. Is that a good idea? My husband thought two different superheroes but I worry that we'd get them one they both love and one that they think is alright, then there would be arguments galore! What do you think?

Thanks, and sorry again OP!

Chopstheduck · 29/11/2012 17:30

Sounds great, no tea for me

OP, just get two blue. No one is going to take offence to that.

Chopstheduck · 29/11/2012 17:31

oh, and if you have costco, there are some fab book sets in there. You could go for something aimed a little older, which they are less likely to already have, and if they aren't quite ready for it yet, they will grow into it.

Chopstheduck · 29/11/2012 17:32

'the worst is when twins attend twin friend parties' - yep! I did once have to buy SIX! Triple party, both dts invited. Gladly, now they are in different classes, they tend to get invited to different parties.

LAlady · 29/11/2012 17:35

My DD is going to a party for twins on Saturday. They are in her class. I have always bought them individual presents, individual Christmas cards she individual party invites.

For this age group, I tend to give an usborne sticker book and a colouring book, with twistable crayola crayons, or a julia donaldson book (steering clear of the gruffalo, which I guess a lot of children have) or similar type of book. - the reading books tend to be on permanent 2 for £7 at asda, and the usborne sticker books I get on amazon so I always have a stash in of them. I figure most children this age like sticker books, they've got a great range of titles and you don't need to know the child to choose one, best of all, they're disposable when finished with! - I've also got audio cds, - again, amazon - there's lots of jack and the beanstalk and other stories types, or bramley hedge, peter rabbit, paddington, percy park-keeper, the lighthouse keeper etc.

all of these I buy based on how much space they take up! - so if for some reason the parents/child don't like them or they've already got them, they won't take up much storage space until they can be re-gifted to someone else.
