To consider taking poorly DS2 to a sling meet tomorrow?

DS2 has bronchiolitis but I think is getting over it. There's a sling meet tomorrow which I really want to get to, having had 2 sling failures already & a baby who hates being out down anywhere.

WIBU to take him & risk infecting other babies?

Hi second coming. Ds is on a new medince plan now which seems to be working well, no attacks we can't deal with at home since it started about 6 weeks back. Still the night coughing and breathlessness but that's normal for him.

Hope your Ds stays healthy x

Rsv is the bug that causes most cases of bronchiolitis. Its contagious alright, and that's why my daughter (20days old) was in isolation of a children's ward recently with it opposed to being in scbu.

Please don't go, it's a horrible condition if a newborn or vulnerable baby catches it, we nearly lost my daughter.

No way!

DS2 finished up as an emergency 2am hospital admission when he had bronchiolitis - and he wheezed for ages afterwards.

It's not like you are just going shopping where you could keep him away from people - assuming he was well enough to be out - you are going to be asking people to let you wrap your potentially contagious baby in their personal slings, as well as risking spreading it with coughing and touching.

I have been to a few slingmeets and I would imagine you would find yourself on the receiving end of some very strained politeness - people who go to slingmeets tend to be keen to welcome new people and help them out, so they are likely to be highly embarrassed to be put in a position like this.

no stay in poor baby dont drag dc out yabu .

SugaricePlumFairy · 29/11/2012 08:07

I'm sure by now you know what not to do!

Plus depending where you are; it's freezing this morning. Stay in the warm and get well vibes being sent to your baby Smile

mrskeithrichards · 29/11/2012 08:09

I'm assuming you're not going then?

MsElleTow · 29/11/2012 08:22

No, don't go out!

DS2 was hospitalised at a week old with bronchiolitis. He is 16 on Christmas Eve and still suffers badly with Asthama and chest infections. The other mums won't thank you for it when their babies catch it from your's.

Hope DS is better soon.

Nuttyprofessor · 29/11/2012 08:24

A baby with bronchiolitis should not be put in a sling. I was told by a consultant no slings or car seats until fully recovered.

Sirzy · 29/11/2012 08:29

MsElle - I was hoping that DS would outgrow the asthma that has started as a result of (or is otherwise linked to it would seem) his bronchiolitis. Doesn't sound hopeful from that!

Nutty I wonder why that is, I was certainly never told that when DS had it, I would have thought the raised position would be beneficial.

BrokenBananaTantrum · 29/11/2012 08:30

Did you go?

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 29/11/2012 08:32

It's today I think.

I hope OP takes notice of the replies on here.

Wheresmycaffeinedrip · 29/11/2012 08:55

I think it's cos of the scrunched positions it can make it harder to breathe.

MrsHelsBels74 · 29/11/2012 10:09

No we're not going. I know my OP sounds a bit uncaring & entitled, that's not how I meant to come across, I was more asking as I was unsure how contagious it was & whether it was still contagious once he was over the worst of it.

Wrt car seats, I took DS2 into the doctor in his car seat & neither one said not to put him in it.

Sorry to everyone who's baby has been hospitalised with this, I really didn't mean to upset anyone.

Glad your not going. But sorry u missed your meet babies choose the worst times to get sick

I think everyone just wanted you to know how bad this can be for little ones as in adults and older children it would just be a bad cold but for babies it's serious. So that you would re think about going.

I hope your little boy feels better soon!! :)
