Well I'm to blame for the Lego, DH is overexcited by the Elf for the first three days, but after that it's down to me. Shall I just bin the lot or be late for school everyday?

Cross off day on Advent <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?q=advent+blackboard&hl=en&sa=X&tbo=d&rlz=1C1RNAN_enGB448&biw=1366&bih=667&tbm=isch&tbnid=Njl3QaYdSFmuPM:&imgrefurl=www.partypieces.co.uk/advent-blackboard.html&docid=DZrnEpbPn_LitM&imgurl=www.partypieces.co.uk/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/252x/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/8/9/8976.jpg&w=252&h=252&ei=5fO1UMWMLOWq0AXQ3oGAAw&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=4&vpy=153&dur=93&hovh=201&hovw=201&tx=107&ty=91&sig=100445007019136711244&page=1&tbnh=148&tbnw=154&start=0&ndsp=24&ved=1t:429,r:0,s:0,i:85" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">blackboard
Chocolate advent calender per child (only one so far from Aunt, but GPs maybe at the post office as we speak)
Hang the decoration on the tasteful wooden tree
Lego Friends calender to share
Elf On The Shelf comedy antics to prepare at last minute each night

Do you need a degree in being a parent to understand the above? When I was a kid, we had a bit of choc from our advent calendar and went to school - the above sounds like there's some sort of show being put on every morning, tree decorating, a Lego Calendar ? and a blackboard? Eh?

SavoyCabbage · 28/11/2012 11:39

Your advent standards are too high woman!

squeakytoy · 28/11/2012 11:47

Cant you just have a calendar like most other people and that be it.. you dont need a whole list of advent activities surely??

UrbanSpaceManBaby · 28/11/2012 11:48

purrpurr when I was a gal all we had 'guess what picture is behind the flimsy cardboard door' style calendar - and we was grateful [tugs forelock]

The DCs are 7 & 5, the wooden stuff turned up because my mother was upset that when DD1 was 6 months old DH & I ate in one go the chocolate calender that was given to the child.
The wooden shit may not be edible but it would keep me warm. wrapped in blanket, typing one handed

What the heck is elf on the shelf?

purrpurr · 28/11/2012 11:51

Urban you had cardboard? :O

C'mon, this is daft, cut it down to the minimum - the real treat of Christmas is being a child, it's absolutely marvellous - the little bite of chocolate is a bonus :)

UrbanSpaceManBaby · 28/11/2012 11:55
sinister surveillance

The elf on the shelf is watching you what you say and what you do the elf on the shelf is watching you each and every christmas!

Someone at DH's work told him about it, he got over excited, the first few days were unbelievably brilliant, the next three weeks involved one or other of us being pushed out of bed at 11pm muttering ' what's the fucking thing going to do tonight then?'

Huh Confused

What happened to the cardboard box with 25 little chocolates in?

SummerRain · 28/11/2012 12:40

Good lord.... I would not have the patience for that nonsense every morning!

It strained my good nature to the max them having a playmobil calandar each last year.... they have one to share this year and that's the end of it!

UrbanSpaceManBaby · 28/11/2012 13:09

I'm not a morning person, it really is n't going to end well.

The post has just been so we now have two more chocolate advent calenders. Sad

Here's my disposal plan:
Remain in attic/woodburner - wooden chalkboard & poncy tree
Mummy get's to open - Lego!
Weekend only visits from elf
2 Choc calenders ripped open in a frenzy and devoured this weekend in their entirety
2 Choc calenders put in cupboard with cereal for morning.

Talk about making a rod for your own back!!

On a serious note I think the 'elf on the shelf' is a bit creepy and controlling. When one my Dc was in pre-school they used to have 'a teddy who sat on a shelf 'watching' who was being good.It really freaked out some of the kids.
